The fabulous ditch E of Harringay Hill at Nattergal High Fen was also absolutely *packed* with Water Violet (Hottonia palustris) leaves &, JOY, the first blooms!
Plus, could the plant lower right be Greater Bladderwort (Utricularia vulgaris)?

Most of the Ely violets have gone over, but the surprise one at the bottom of the garden is back again this year and looking lovely. Bit of a mix of Common and Early Dog? #VioletChallenge #WildflowerHour

Lots of lovely Hairy Violet, Viola hirta, at The Warren, near Cirencester. ๐ #WildflowerHour #VioletChallenge
Only one Violet this week for the #WildFlowerHour #VioletChallenge.
I think it's an Early Dog Violet, but may be wrong.

We seemed to have peaked a bit too soon for #WildFlowerHour's #VioletChallenge with this post, so here we are again! ๐
For #wildflowerhour and #VioletChallenge I believe this to be Sweet Violet, just beginning to bloom on the cliffs above Dover
A single pale purple flower. At the back of the flower a white spur can be seen - this would be darker if it was a Sweet Violet.
A Dog Violet for the #VioletChallenge. There were lots in the woods at Ravensroost although many of them were a bit inaccessible with the ground so wet. #WildflowerHour
An Early Dog Violet (left) and for comparison a nearby Common Dog Violet (right).

A patch of violets growing on mossy ground on the woodland floor.
Fun in the woods in the rain identifying Violets for this week's #VioletChallenge
๐ for #WildflowerHour. Stripy lower petal and a pale spur at the back: I THINK these are Common Dog Violets.
@wildflowerhour.bsky.social #VioletChallenge Common Dog Violet, Viola riviniana, I think. White throat with branched dark veins; spur stout, notched at tip and paler than petals; pointed sepals. Near Monmouth.

Gorgeous Sweet Violet, Viola odorata forma lilacina, on a Croydon road verge for the #WildflowerHour #VioletChallenge
Common Dog Violet, Viola riviniana, on a Croydon road verge for the #WildflowerHour #VioletChallenge
Sweet Violet, Viola odorata var imberbis (top) & V. odorata var dumetorum (bottom). Imberbis has a pinky/peachy coloured spur & no tufty bits towards the base of the lateral petals, whereas dumetorum has a violet spur & tufty bits ('scuse finger). #WildflowerHour #VioletChallenge
Less sure of this #VioletChallenge. Possibly Common Dog Violet based on sepal appendages, longer veining on lower petal but spur doesnโt look paler than petals & didnโt look for notch as didnโt have ID sheet with me! Feel more informed about what to look for now #wildflowerhour
I didnโt rate my chances on the #VioletChallenge, for a start I forgot to take the ID sheet with me! Anyway, think I have Early Dog Violet (pointy sepals, small sepal appendages, spur darker than petals) and Sweet Violet (rounded sepals) #wildflowerhour
Early Dog Violet, Viola reichenbachiana, from local woodland for the #wildflowerhour #violetchallenge.
A selection of Sweet Violets, Viola odorata, from the road verges of Croydon for the #wildflowerhour #violetchallenge.
