The bbc was established in 1922. A year after my great uncle was born. A war veteran and later a journalist on the World Service. Most recently went off script at the #VJ80 commemorations. And in his interviews he feels the fight against fascism was all for nothing. The Beeb is dying

The Japanese White Pine Pinus parviflora 'Miyajima' in the National Arboretum bonsai garden survived #Hiroshima. The Yamaki family, which had tended it since the 17th century donated it to the USA as part of a bicentennial gift from the people of #Japan in 1976.
My great uncle (essentially my grandad as I never got to meet him but we had his little brother in the UK) has been doing the rounds in the media with his speech to the King at #VJ80.
He’s now 103.
Here he is at 55, a bit older than me.
And that’s me, sitting on the shoulder of giants 😍🫡

80th anniversary of VJ Day, remembering Frank Evans from #Aberystwyth - a POW in Yosano. He returned to develop relations between the two towns. The photos show the Frank Evans memorial as well as the remaining chimneys of the plant in which he & his comrades were forced to work. #VJDay #VJ80
