It is #BlackHistoryMonth. John Baker (d. 1871) was “perhaps the last surviving Canadian slave.” Manumitted after 2+ decades of forced labour, he enlisted in the British army, fought in the #WarOf1812, and claimed to have seen Napoleon at Waterloo.
