A Beaux-Arts style building that houses a performing arts and cinema complex. From the theatre's website: "On November 2, 1960, Durham’s Youth Chapter of The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) began protesting the Carolina Theatre’s segregation policy. Their protests focused on the illegality of a city-owned venue upholding laws of segregation. Black patrons arranged round robin protests—lining up at the white ticket window, being refused a ticket, and getting back in line to do it all over again. After years of pressure from protesters, the City of Durham desegregated the theater on August 5, 1963."

The Carolina Theatre in Durham, NC was built in 1926; it's celebrating its 100th birthday this year. Glad it survived here in the land of teardown and rebuild instead of restore and preserve.
