By reconnecting with local customs, by invoking #Dartmoor rivers as beings with agency and presence, the Dartmoor Tors Festival invites both locals and visitors to enter a deeper relationship with the national park.

Thanks to everyone who came along to the well dressing on Saturday. It was lovely to be invited to be part of it, along with my colleagues and friends, and to talk about Jean Proctor and the Land Girls #WellDressing #LisaSmartMP #LandGirls
A well dresses with an image recreating Vermeer’s Girl with a pearl earring.
Impressed with this year’s Buxton well dressing on St. Anne’s Well. A Vermeer.

Welldressing. Large boards saying 1945-Crosspool-2025 and a depiction made of small elements of natural materials featuring a terrier type dog, head turned towards the viewer, and a black and white cat. They are at a window looking out at a gate and garden path, there is bunting.
Notice describing how the well dressing was made and what it is about.
Very touching and different take on VE Day in Crosspool #welldressing #Sheffield
It's that time of the year again, when the well dressings are out in the Peaks. There have been some good ones, but unfortunately the heat is damaging them quickly. #PeakDistrict. #Welldressing
A modern theme for a deeply old #tradition.
Well Dressing at Hayfield, #Derbyshire.

Tissington Well Dressing
An ancient custom today.
The village water wells provided uninterrupted water supply during periods of drought.

Not often that my home village gets mentioned in the news. A rainy bank holiday weekend means the annual Well Dressing Festival, this year being the 181st. When I was a kid the most exciting part was the funfair, which back then had a few arcade machines as well as the rides, something I didn't […]
The Green Knight - a large suit of armour (probably 12ft tall) made from green corrugated plastic, lying down as if sleeping on his side. His axe is a large plastic head with a length of tree trunk a few inches thick as a handle.
A close-up of the Krishna and Kaliya well dressing. There is a multi-headed papier-maché snake in the middle, a drawing of a Hindu character in the middle, and a long snake made of hundreds of gold and multi-coloured bangles draped across the front.
Checked out some of the dressed wells in Malvern this weekend. The theme was "folklore and fairy tales".
By far the best two: Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and Eco Bhakti Sangha's Krishna and Kaliya (with SO MANY BANGLES making the snake!)

Curved stone wall built into a hillside, decorated with a dragon head and tail to make the wall seem like the dragon's body. A poem pinned to the wall links the dragon's back to the line of hills beyond
#Malvern May #welldressing this weekend. One of the largest to be decorated (human for scale) is the Wyche Spout - an enormous feat of planning and cooperation. The theme this year is Myths and Folklore. I love the way the team have made the wall into the dragon's body. More in the alt text.
