#WellFiredRoll #Burnt #Scotland
Photo of burned rolls labelled as “well-fired rolls” in a bake shop.
Selection of rolls and breads at a bake shop.
A #scottish food phenomenon: the #wellfiredroll is close to pure carbon but people love them. Sometimes called a #glasgowroll but I see them in most traditional bakers from Dumfries to John O’ Groats. After 14 years I still have to work up to trying one.
Baked at a high temp, the tops blacken giving a smoky note. Don’t be afraid of the char, it gives flavours not found in a standard bread roll.
In other parts of this British island you may find paler imitations. But Scottish #WellFiredRoll is the way to go 🤘🏼

Thought for the day. Brioche buns don’t hold a candle to proper bread rolls. They’re so brittle and fall apart if even laced in proximity to moisture 🤮.
If you visit Scotland, more particularly the west of Scotland, try a #WellFiredRoll.
