Already at today’s 1.2°C global warming, we cannot rule out that the ice sheets of #Greenland and #WestAntarctica may pass their TPs eventually, resulting in several meters of committed long-term #SeaLevelRise, and that parts of #Permafrost become subject to abrupt thaw.

When the ice sheet covering Scandinavia collapsed 19,000 years ago, it retreated up to 600 meters/day, far faster than anything observed by modern satellites. Regions of #WestAntarctica could experience similar pulses of ice loss in the near future ⬇️
