Maggie’s daughter, (I’m calling her May) arrived on the usual patch in front of the kitchen window this morning. A wattlebird called out as I took the compost out and a flock of cockatoos in the grey sky. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

A little brown ball of feathers blipped across my line of vision too fast to be identified, so instead, #FirstBirdOfMyDay honors go to the mourning dove slowly hunting and pecking beneath the feeders.

I had the pleasure of seeing my first grey butcherbird of the year, appearing out of nowhere to snap up some meaty scraps on the lawn this morning then flying away with a beak fully loaded. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

Nobody asked #WhatsYours 2day, but anyway: When 1st stepped outside, saw ground covered in half-dried leaflets fr sugarberry tree. As I looked high into the branches wondering why, eye was drawn to a bright red northern cardinal glowing in the earliest rays of a not-yet-risen sun. #FirstBirdOfMyDay

An early walk to the local water reserve and an abundance of magpies amongst the vegetation but none that I'm on first name terms with! Coots, moorhens, ibis, white faced and white necked herons and some wary plovers in the open spaces. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

Through the open window of my bedroom I heard the call and response of 2 currawongs then a few minutes later 3 of them winged by and landed on a tall gum tree just visible from my bed. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

A flock of sacred ibis, nearly 100 of them perching in a couple of partly submerged trees on our lakeside walk this morning. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours

First bird of my day: a jackdaw walking up a roof with a stick and then diving into what is obviously its home. When I looked around, every roof had a jackdaw carrying a nesting stick and doing similar things. #firstbirdofmyday #whatsyours
