#FirstBirdOfMyDay: White-throated sparrows. My backyard definitely has winter residents from both the east and the west, but mostly west. When an eastern w-ts sings its ascending song, a western one inevitably replies with its descending notes, as if to say, "No, this is how you do it."
My first was the regular Dunnock singing beautifully from the top of a hedge.
Dunnock are so underappreciated, with their myriad shades of brown and grey, beautiful pinkish legs and wonderful song, they seem to be passed by by many.

Two carrion crows travelling with purpose in an easterly direction, whilst a robin below took a more leisurely route hopping along the low patio wall.

First birds of my day: a pair of Magpie in the neighbour's Silver Birch tree, while overhead a trio of Lesser Black-backed Gull and a pair of Yellow-Legged Gull circled noisily in the lightening sky.

I’m away camping for the weekend, out in the bush and was woken by magpies and other birds I didn’t recognise, chorusing at dawn, waking the trees and ignoring the cold and the rain. Auspicious start to a weekend of music. #FirstBirdOfMyDay #WhatsYours
#FirstBirdOfMyDay: The white-throated sparrows take back the honors from the American robins today.
First, a dunnock pottering around the early morning wet grass. Later, a crow grooming the miniature shetland then flying of with a large beakful of moult for its nest.
