The Evening Grosbeak is about the closest thing I have to a spark bird. When a flock of these stunning finches descended on my feeders in 2007, I could scarce believe my eyes. I never tire or seeing them.

Did you know? Whitebark pine is an “obligate mutualist” of the Clark’s nutcracker. That means that the pine needs the nutcracker for its survival. The nutcracker’s specialized beak can extract the seeds, and seeds that aren't eaten are free to grow! 🌎

Have you noticed the profusion of red berries on some of the bushes in our mountains and foothills? The buffaloberry crop is a great one this year, and that is great news for our bears! Carry bear spray, make noise, and be extra vigilant on the trails 🐻🌎

🗞️ A recent article by The Narwhal confirms that the decision to increase cougar hunting quotas in the province significantly was made based on input from hunting groups and direction from the Minister of Forestry and Parks, rather than sound data.

Mystery animal near Yellowstone likely one of area’s rarest critters Dash-cam footage shows the animal – likely a wolverine – bounding across a snowy road just outside Yellowstone National Park.

Wolverines: Alberta’s fierce, elusive survivors, with fewer than 1,000 left across the Rockies and boreal forests. Each one reminds us of the resilience our wild spaces need. Will Alberta’s backcountry always have room for them? #Wolverines #WildAlberta #NaturePhotography #ProtectOurWildlife
