On another note, this is the last of our Wild Alberta facts for "What's Your 60?". Did you enjoy them, and should we do more? #whatsyour60
Alberta’s lichens play a multitude of different roles in our ecosystems. Neither plant nor animal, these strange symbiotic partnerships can be incredibly diverse and colourful. Take a look for them on old trees and rocks the next time you’re out on a walk!

Did you know? Whitebark pine is an “obligate mutualist” of the Clark’s nutcracker. That means that the pine needs the nutcracker for its survival. The nutcracker’s specialized beak can extract the seeds, and seeds that aren't eaten are free to grow! 🌎

Have you noticed the profusion of red berries on some of the bushes in our mountains and foothills? The buffaloberry crop is a great one this year, and that is great news for our bears! Carry bear spray, make noise, and be extra vigilant on the trails 🐻🌎

Have you seen this native butterfly while out exploring Alberta’s alpine meadows? This Sunday you can try to spot one as we adventure through their preferred habitat with plant ecologist Isaac Peetoom Heida. 🌎 Register: albertawilderness.ca/product/adve...

Just like tracking other animals by their footprints, you can see who has been visiting a tree by the holes they leave behind! Do you have a favourite woodpecker?
Thanks @ashley.t.gal for the great sapsucker 📸!

We think all of Alberta’s owls are superb and it is great that they get recognized every year on #superbowlsunday! What all our superb owls need is us to protect their habitat. Have you told your MLA and the Environment Minister lately that you care about protecting Wild Alberta?
