Goldfinch (Male)
Taken earlier today while out enjoying the winter sunshine.
I'm finding the SAD getting bad at the mo, but a brisk 8ml walk through icy rain and into the eventual glorious sunshine helped blow some cobwebs away π¦βοΈπ¦π

I watched this bird for a good 10 mins trying to swallow this fish, and then when it couldn't, I watched it fail to take off with it too π

Sand Martin chick being fed by one of it's parents, from Friday morning.
There were two chicks in here a couple of days before, so hopefully, one has fledged, and this one will soon follow (if it hasn't already!)

Wren (Troglodytes troglodytes) shouting at the world!
I love these guys. Don't let their tiny size fool you, though. These guys are our most common, and one of the loudest birds in the UK.

1. Broad Bodied Chaser Dragonfly: This is a young male. The powder blue on his abdomen is just starting to show
2 & 3. Damselflies: These are mating pairs, with the male above in a 'mate guard' to keep other males away while the female lays gets eggs.

She has been nest sitting, and hopefully, they have eggs in there.
Meanwhile he has been guarding the River Ouseburn and doing lots of patrolling and shouting and displaying at all perceived threats.

Mallard (male)
This guy seems to have taken up residence on Ouseburn Farm's orchard pond. I've seen him there all week. I thought he had a mate hidden in the reeds, but nope, it's just him
