It seems like a different wine then, always prime time and delicious. Only 7.5% alcohol, it coats the palate and takes charge, refreshing the unseasonable warmth we had this week. It's Riesling weather, baby! Golden hued, it's in perfect shape.

A tale of 2 Rieslings. Both super. The '99 Donnhoff ($23 on release) has youthful color. Fresh, crisp and tasty. The 01 Schaefer ($22 on release may have a bit more concentration, but plenty of energy, esp. as it warmed. Both 8.5%. Both have plenty of time left, esp. the '01. #wine #winesofgermany

Often, I say the older Rieslings I pull are as fresh as a daisy, very young. This tightly wound '01 Spatlese is plainly mature, burnished, with complexity. And it has exciting acidity that eviscerates the modest sugar and lifts the fruit.
