Please pay attention to what is happening with federal workforce development legislation and let your US Senators and US Reps know reauthorization matters and that gutting WIOA isn't an option ... #adhd #vocrehab #workforcedevelopment #WIOA

It's time for the #goodjobs edition of JOBS THAT WORK, as the Trump Administration finally kills off Biden-era efforts to get more for working people from federal workforce spending.
Quite a bit to unpack here, including why I think it's time to give up on this phase of #WIOA reauthorization.
Which... sure. Same time: if you're seeing wage dropoff or other issues in a sector at a national level, you could direct more resources toward it, including through discretionary grantmakings, that can help employers. I don't think we have a good reason to do LESS. #workforce #WIOA (2/2)
Stephen Moret of Strada making good point on median wages built into #WIOA. If you want to make all the systems work together, funding an infrastructure that creates more real-time wage data feeding into the #workforce system that DOL can analyze fairly nimbly... that would be a game changer.
Congress thinks apprenticeships are great. #WIOA
#WIOA hearing not talking about spending more money here but talking a lot about scaling.
Nick Moore talking about a more curated and concierge #WIOA system.
As a fellow #workforce Nick from Alabama, I appreciate this on many levels.
Kiley talking about #WIOA being good for citizenship, then talks about how to align the workforce system with public assistance and entitlement programs.
It's in the law! It's there! UI is run out of the same place! Grah.
McBath getting close to addressing the problem--people can't afford to do workforce training--then goes back to ASWA, which doesn't address the solution (supportive services) at all. #WIOA
I don't understand Democrats' focus on ASWA not being enacted. Economic justice is more fruitful (and open!) political ground, and most Americans know jack about ASWA and its existence. #WIOA
I'm... OK with the "short-term certification" conversation, but I still think it jumps past several logistical and fundamental questions to something that sounds interesting, which is really a lot of the problem with #WIOA now.
As chair, Wahlberg seems much more open minded than Foxx on how to remake #WIOA and the question about data is pretty good. I would wonder what he thinks about #goodjobs: something I've been toying with writing about is Virginia was the only political leader I've seen come out AGAINST job quality.
This "ASWA was going to pass" sidebar gives me mixed feelings. It would be nice to insulate the system from the cuts that I think are coming--we need more money, not less--but ASWA perpetuated so many of #WIOA problems because of outdated thinking in its design. I would rather move on to a new bill.
Hill seems very taken by the idea that we have too many people going to college and should have them trying to get jobs instead. Whoever's been hitting them on those talking points, good work.
That said, I think they're getting caught on a symptom not the bigger problem #wioa
Not hearing anything on supportive services, which is really the biggest need. If you can't get people to #workforce solutions, they aren't really solutions. #WIOA
How can we reduce administrative burden on states? Reevaluate what we measure--what we have now doesn't give us enough useful to learn anything from--and be slightly less precious with the money, which is something the Hill can change. #WIOA
I actually think we put too much on states to solve on their own, contrary to at least one member's statement. Quality control under #WIOA is, uh, nonexistent. Instead of just saying "States will figure it out, stay out federal government" we should have the federal government help states more.
People are saying there seems to be a lot of people from Alabama named "Nick" who know about #workforce stuff. #WIOA
Tuned in late to the #WIOA hearing for House and Ed Workforce and this first question from a member is "How do people get money under the current law?"
Come on, guys. We can do better than this.
