Would love some #writersadvice. I have a very well-established idea for a crime drama romance. Characters and plot amongst them are developed. Biggest issue: I want the mystery portion of the story to be just as compelling as the characters. How does one come up with an elaborate crime scheme?

You can self edit your work only if you can ruthlessly slay your children, your prized paragraphs, your favorite pithy statements. If it doesn't progress the plot, adds no specific important detail, and is just stage dressing, BE VERY WARY OF LEAVING IT BEHIND. Usually less is more. #writersadvice

Habit “First, forget inspiration...

Well-known quote from one of the legends of SFF:

“First, forget inspiration. Habit is more dependable. Habit will sustain you whether you’re inspired or not. Habit will help you finish and polish your stories. Inspiration won’t. Habit is persistence in practice.” #OctaviaButler

I know i could break up my projects into smaller files but i always feel like it disrupts my flow/continuity if i can't just scroll up and double check something, ya know??

An essay by amazing Jean Muenchrath who told me years ago, when I was a writer in residence in Rocky Mountain National Park, that sometimes you just have to take time off from writing and lets things rest.

Very sound advice, unfortunately too late for me as I have already embarked on my writing journey! ⚡💙📚

Thinking of self-publishing? The first thing I would tell you is this: there are multiple levels of expense and complexity. The act itself can be fast and basically free. It is fine to start out this way, or like me, continue in the simple manner. Just make sure the material is tops. #writersadvice

I've got some short stories bubbling... I'm thinking of (if good enough) trying the indy author route for just these ideas as a subtle introduction to my absurd fantasy to see if my humour resonates.

So... stop me now if you think this is a potential disaster.

Thoughts?

Do I know anyone in the publishing/editing industry I can ask questions to? I don't trust Google.

Today's #writersadvice:

Follow long paragraphs with short paragraphs. Follow intense action sequences with slower scenes. This provides a moment for readers to mentally digest your story. Without breaks, they may start skipping sentences and skimming.

And always remember, your ego is your enemy.

Since I have experience in healthcare (dialysis to be exact)
I thought I'd make a list for #writers and #authors
about how blood works:)
Might be helpful^^

1. Blood has a very distinct, metallic scent to it. It's sweet, strongly metallic and it's pretty hard to "unsmell" it.

I need a new website. Mostly a new domain name.
I'm currently using WordPress because I have no coding skill. I'm looking to make it an author website and hoping price is not more expensive then my current plan. Any suggestions?

I'm an utter masochist & about to begin a complete rewrite of the novel I finished after 10 yrs. But excited! Have learned so much from so many ppl in that time that finally feel like I understand the story I'm trying to tell. Better late than never? Anyway I need #writersadvice:
