Yesterday I washed and chopped up a couple garden beets and their greens outside and had both for dinner. π½οΈ π±π«
All the beets and the greens got eaten π
I then planted more seeds so I can keep enjoying them as long as theyβll keep growing for me #zone10 #vegetable #gardening
Repotted my little big man (blue Java banana) today.
The cavendish we planted in ground died back (visible here behind the Java) so I want to see if there is any difference leaving him potted long-term because ..so far so good.

Vegetable germination has been pretty bad this winter with all the hot dry weather here (RIP carrots and bunching onions) but I do have a couple Red Acre cabbage coming in strong and theyβre very pretty π±π₯¬ #vegetablegarden #zone10

Carrots and bean plants

Last year: not much growing happening
This year: lots of veggies on the way
One great thing about gardening is how much there is to learn, techniques and tricks etc. I bought and built those a year ago. Last year compared to this year, much better results so far already! #vegetablegardening #zone10
It's a very small harvest, we know; but just a few months ago it was a bare stick with no roots jabbed into the ground. Now it has at least two grafts and is producing little sweet mulberries. Every harvest starts with the little victories. π± #gardening #zone10 #urbangarden
Praying mantis baby about to eat an aphid on some Japanese eggplant.

Yellow nasturtium with orange streaks
βIf you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden."

My favorite flowers are the ones that sneak up on me, as did this toothed Nasturtium!

Elegant clarkia. Honestly, not my favorite, and it is such a prolific re-seeder that itβs practically a weed. But itβs also a great pollinator plant, and it can make a nice background fill-in for a garden bed. #nativeplants #gardening #zone10
Cold-stratified garlic cloves (9-10 weeks in the fridge) vs non-stratified. π±
I canβt know the different location in the bed had zero effect but it looks pretty clear.
The truth will come at harvest time. #zone10 #garlic
Going to be adding these huge, juicy guava to the farm stand right after the holidays. Our neighbors are gonna love them!

Another look at our Ginger haul. Also found a couple pieces of Tumeric and Cardamon. Mrs. K is already putting them to work in a few Japanese dishes and spices. π± #backyardgarden #veggiegarden #gardeningfeed #zone10 #growyourownfood
Good morning gardeners and plant people! Got to start off the morning right with a drink made from fresh mint, honey, lemon and our ginger we harvested yesterday. So nice! π± #gardeningfeed #urbangarden #zone10 #homegrown
The goal next year to grow just about all the sides and seasonings we just had to buy last minute for #Thanksgiving. We're a little close this year but that #SanDiego weather threw us a few curve balls so had to get creative. #zone10 #urbangarden #gardeningfeed π±
