"The prose is sharp. The structure is ambitious. The thematic reach is wide. She is writing with the confidence of an author who knows exactly what she wants to say and has found the precise language to say it."

In my gladiator WIP, Brutus would have liked to take revenge on the Romans who captured him and killed his loved ones, but he's been broken enough not to have the means or the will to carry it through. Rufus is not vengeful, he's just grateful to survive the day.
David is a petty, vindictive l'il sh!t who'd love to see his enemies taken out. Even when he's reached the understanding that living (well) is the best revenge, he fills his day with online feuds and trying to get people cancelled.
The person he most wants cancelled is the (1/2)

Candy hasn't become super popular in the region the Good Thyme Inn is in yet, but I gotta talk about a region where candy IS big: There's a place on Aloutia where food is magically preserved forever: Monarchia Chocolatia. It's in a tropical area where sugar is grown/processed, so they

Alt text: a digital illustration of two characters from the book Thief of Death by Samantha Breaux. Art is by the author as well. The illustration shows a man standing beside a brick wall with his hands on his hips, looking up at a woman who is sitting on top of the wall holding a large straw hat. The man has shoulder length, wavy black hair, and is wearing a v neck shirt with rolled up shirt sleeves, gray pants, and black boots. His is slim but muscular with light tan skin. The woman has brown hair in a long braid, darker tan skin, and a mischievous smirk on her face. She is wearing a white short sleeved shirt, a blue tunic, black leggings, and gray boots. There is a bag of dirt, a plant, and a shovel on the ground beside the wall.
I'm playing around with a simple, cartoon style sketch of Wren and Spencer. She is helping him garden by stealing his hat.

South: A Memoir of The Endurance Voyage by Ernest Shackleton-
I enjoyed Ernest Shackleton’s account of the Endurance voyage and ordeal written in his own words. Though quite dry, I found his writing to be fascinating. If you like Alfred Lansing’s Endurance, you will love this book!

Comedy is a subgenre in pretty much everything I write, so Horror Comedy is a favorite. Especially when tropes are used to great effect to subvert expectations.
Cabin in the Woods, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, Zombieland, and Freaky come to mind.

From my gladiator WIP.
After a particularly hard day filled with getting hurt, and the shadow of being whipped to death grazing Rufus, it's dinner time at the ludus.
Hey artists, if you see this, post a dog! 💙

This is the first appearance of Rose, wife of Bastile. Her character was set from the first moment she walked into the room.

Istaria holds a lot of social power. She is the queen of Esrasea, and this gives her plenty of authority within the country, and military might to exercise her power beyond it.
One on one, she isn't especially threatening. She is technically a mage, but not a powerful one.🧵
Now I have started this one. It releases in June. Got an early copy through Aardvark book club. I'm only a chapter in. I'm intrigued but a little hesitant. I've heard mixed reviews. I'll keep yall updated.
