An orange and black monarch butterfly perched on tall thin purple flowers with other red, yellow, and pink flowers in the background
A pristine and very large white magnolia blossom with curled petals surrounded by green and bronze leaves
Today I got to see monarch butterflies and a perfect magnolia blossom π±
The recumbent Bramley had yet another hard prune this year, but itβs flowering up nicely. A bit of rain this year might help with the Bitter Pit, not as bad as it was but still a problem. π±

Okay, I just ran across some native shooting stars yesterday, and I can confirm that they are delightfully fragrant. They don't bludgeon you with aroma like mock orange, but it's a delicate treasure for those willing to pause and get on their level. I never knew! #nativeplants πΏπ±
A top view of the solid magenta color with its long petals forming a star shape and a bright golden center.
A coordinating white lily-flowering tulip with magenta streaks coming up from the base that has yet to open because it is chilly today.
#MagentaMonday lily-flowering tulips. I love the shapes of these. I wish they perennialized better.

The beautiful scrolled edges of unfurling βDixie Wood Fernβ highlighted by wide flat foliage of other plants behind it.
The simpler but more textured shorter structure of unfurling Ostrich Fern sparkling next to a clump of Phlox divaricata with its purple blooms & star-shaped clusters of new buds.
#NativePlants fern season is on. Dryopteris hybrid βDixie Wood Fernβ is shapely, matures quite large, & tolerates drier soil which makes it good for back row of Hosta garden closest to house. Plus classic Matteuccia struthiopteris (Ostrich Fern).

Digital illustration of a brown skink with white markings with large pointy scales, it is eating wildflowers and there are vegetated sand dunes in the background.
Well this is as done as it's going to get. Tiliqua frangens, a megafauna skink from pleiocene and pleistocene australia with large pointy scales feeding on spring wildflowers. #palaeoart #palaeoart #reptile #lizard

Deep yellow almost orange nasturtium flower flecked with deep red/dark orange against a backdrop of green round shaped nasturtium leaves.
I forgot to post a flower pic earlier, I was too excited about the prospect of my first proper shower since my foot op. Anyhow, I feel wonderful now, and I had a trip out for lunch too with beloved OH. Managed fine on crutches now that I am allowed to put my bad foot down. Have a happy flower π π±

Interstellar Comet 3I Atlas at 09.11.2025 shows nice tail structures Despite interference from moonlight (82 % illuminated) and a small height of around 9 to 12 degrees a try on comet 3I Atlas. The picture is heavily processed to show the antitail and the "smoking" tail. Combination of a picture series with 2 telescopes, piggyback mounted and tracked on comet: TEC 140 at f5 and ASI 6200MM, 5x180s L Askar 300
New images of interstellar Comet 3I/ATLAS are coming in as it moves out of the Sun's glare and (barely) back into view.
This shot, by Michael Buechner and Frank Niebling, shows an intriguing anti-tail and a "smoking" tail. π§ͺπ

Large orange dahlia flowers in bright sun, a blurred, white with purple streaks, dahlia on left. Colored metal cage bits in lower left are the cayenne pepper cages. Also a good year for peppers! Greenery behind.
Nearing the end of dahlia days...
