The east portico of the Agora (marketplace). The Agora covered an area of 113 x 130 meters. The first construction phase of the Agora is dated to the Late Hellenistic Period.
The Stadium was built at the foot of the gorge with rows of seats cut into the steep hillside. It is dated to the Late Hellenistic period.
The library was built around 130 AD. It is considered Turkey’s second-best preserved ancient library structure after the “Celsus Library” of Ephesus.

#AncientSiteSunday - Nysa on the Maeander was an ancient city in Caria, nestled deep within the valleys of the Aegean, 50 km east of Ephesus. Today, it is a very atmospheric archaeological site with ruins from the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine periods scattered along the mountain slope.
This is a rather beautiful bit of sculptutal work over the main entrance to John Burnet Senior's Venetian Renaissnace style former Clydesdale Bank headquarters on St Vincent Place in Glasgow.

Research has found her headstone was engraved incorrectly adding an "e" to the end of her last name.
She died in 1861.

Inscription: IN MEMORY OF WILLIAM LANUSBOROUGH THE EXPLORER. BORN AT STEPHENSTONE MANSE SALTCOATS, SCOTLAND, 21st Feb. 1825 DIED AT CALOUNDRA, 16th, MARCH 1886. HE TRACED SEVERAL RIVERS OF QUEENSLAND TO THEIR SOURCES, AND CROSSED AUSTRALIA FROM THE GULF OF CARPENTARIA TO MELBOURNE.
William Landsborough (1825–1886), surveyor and explorer, came to Australia in 1841. He crossed Australia from the Gulf of Carpentaria to Melbourne and in 1861 lead a search for Burke and Wills.

Carved from wood, this 16th-century figure shows a corpse inside a coffin. The body is decaying and worms are spilling from the stomach. The coffin is a memento mori, an object that reminds the viewer of the shortness of human life & the inevitability of death.
