Inherited resilience to clonal hematopoiesis by modifying stem cell RNA regulation Somatic mutations that increase the fitness of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) drive their expansion in clonal hematopoiesis (CH) and predispose individuals to blood cancers. Population variation in t...

Proposed role of itching: MgrpA3 expressed on itch sensing neurons triggers the itching sensation. Scratching then activates pain-sensing neurons via TRPV1, which in turn release substance P. Substance P then activates mast cells to release more pruritogens (agents that cause itching) and pro-inflammatory molecules that enhance host defense against Staphylococcus aureus. The mast cell is also activated by allergens which crosslink IgE on its surface, promoting mast cell degranulation.

If you have ever wondered why we scratch itchy things... we have a new answer for that question: it promotes clearance of Staph bacteria on the skin via activation of mast cells.

We've summarised the landscape of human pluripotent stem cell trials worldwide in a review in Cell Stem Cell. Fun fact: Over 1200 patients have to date received treatment with hPSC products in 116 different trials, and more than 100 billion hPSC-derived cells have been dosed! doi.org/10.1016/j.st...

Elevated IL-22 as a result of stress-induced gut leakage suppresses septal neuron activation to ameliorate anxiety-like behavior Immune activation is often thought to exacerbate stress-related mental disorders. Here, Xia, Lu, Lan, et al. reveal elevated IL-22 derived from the gut during the early phase of repeated stress. IL-22...

Type I IFN-mediated NET release promotes Mycobacterium tuberculosis replication and is associated with granuloma caseation Sur Chowdhury et al. report that Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) infection results in the release of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) that promote Mtb replication and associate with tissue damage. Blocking NET release results in better control of Mtb replication, revealing a strategy for treating these deadly infections.

#WeekendRead! #ZombieNeutrophils! #InterferonsFriendsOrFoes?! Stallings &co show @ Cell Host & Microbe that micobacterium drives the releases of NET from live neutrophils (that lose their 🧠!) thanks to PAD4 & type I #interferons, favoring #Myb growth! www.cell.com/cell-host-mi...
