Their entire existence is obscured, and they cannot be found. But that works both ways. They rely on manipulating their minions from afar.

The necari are an extremely strict and proud race. They have a very detailed codex of citizenry, and family honor is very important to them.
Unless done for honor, breaking the law can mark one as a criminal, a stain that can never be cleansed.

The necari have a form of magic all their own, that was written off by other races as being weak and useless.
Necai rune magic. Feeding magic into carved runes to create simple effects such as fire or light.

A comic of two foxes, one of whom is Green, the other is Blue's mother, Red. Red turns around to look at Green, who listens. Red: Can you take the thing to the other ones at that one over there? Green stares back at her, blankly. Red's look of determined confidence does not falter. Green: ...The what over where? Red: Yes. Later, Blue and Green are walking together. Green: I adore your mother, but I can see where you get it from. Blue: Get what?
Not at first, but she finds out eventually. Jane is a very pious person, but Liz navigates the conversation without too much trouble. Her views aren't entirely contrary to the Church, but she does accuse them of hiding things.

Liz on the other hand has some very strong political views. Her feelings towards the Church are also very different than most, but she tends to keep it to herself.

As far as my ‘main’ villain is concerned, he’s so hands off that his existence isn’t even known by most of his minions. He controls the situation from afar, being nigh untouchable.
He would never handle things personally, unless absolutely forced to.

All my soulborn races have mating rituals, if those count. They can have sex without, but it won't produce an offspring.
As for death, each race mourns in subtle ways. The closest to a ritual would be the ludari, who wear white during mourning.

Jane is absolutely a victim of fate, but she also grows and finds heroism within herself. She's very self aware, and doesn't deny fate's role within her story.
In fact, struggling against fate becomes a major theme in the series.

I don't like use beasts or monsters in my story, as it's more of a drama between individuals. Instead of manipulating monsters, my villains manipulate people to do their bidding, creating much stronger dramatic tension than some throwaway fodder.
