📢CALL FOR COLLABORATION📢

My PhD student Warre is looking for flies infected with #Laboulbeniales fungi. Especially Musca domestica!

If you have any, store in 96% ethanol or in the freezer, record on @inaturalist.bsky.social, and/or contact Warre.

The state of herbarium specimen backlogs: Perspectives from bryophyte collections An herbarium must have its specimens processed, identified and accessioned so that members of the botanical community can readily consult these materials. However, many herbaria struggle to keep up wi...

Check out our new paper focusing on unaccessioned herbarium specimens. nhcm.pensoft.net/article/1829...
We found that bryophytes and fungi/lichens were over-represented in the specimen backlog, compared to vascular plants. This highlights the need for more bryophyte and fungi/lichen identification!

Four components of functional diversity of dead wood

Four components of functional diversity of dead wood

What characteristics of dead wood promote fungal species richness in forests? And how can we use this information to manage fungal biodiversity?

New research on the functional diversity of dead wood in Norwegian forests provides some answers.

Statewide survey aims to put California’s fungi on the conservation map Getting to The Cedars, an ecological preserve in California’s Sonoma county, is a slog. Multiple rivers and creeks must be crossed, and it can be tough going on an often storm-destroyed road. But…

A state-funded survey across California has uncovered hundreds of fungi new to science, part of a first-of-its-kind biodiversity effort.

Often overlooked, fungi support plant growth and store carbon — knowledge that could guide conservation and forest restoration as wildfires intensify.
