Some differentiation revision with Year 13 in #Mathstoday included me saying the word "sneaky product rule" about 100 times

Fun discussion in #Mathstoday debating if anyone of the following can be considered Standard Form and whether we haven't been specific enough in our definitions! Would love to hear thoughts!
Tables where students need to find the position to term rule for different linear sequences
Linear sequences with year 9s in #MathsToday
Trying using tables to structure their thinking and using language of Position to Term rule as opposed to nth term (...then saying that the n stands for positioN...)

Little tricky question for Year 11 in #Mathstoday
Standard form is such a lovely topic to weave into other places!
Logarithmic Regression with Year 12 in #mathstoday
Finding that we are needing to scaffold things in #AlevelMaths more this year and we are enjoying putting together resources to help to students organise their thinking!
Saw the top question whilst doing some prep with students for the Pink Kangaroo and enjoyed extending it to more and more digits. A fun way to explore patterns and generalising in #MathsToday
As is traditition I did the Intermediate Maths Challenge in timed conditions so I can chat through my thoughts with my classes that sat it too! Harder than usual I thought and made some claaasssic mistakes but had a great time! (Thumbnail is particularly silly)

We use these as an intro into these kinds of questions, slowly builds up difficulty so students can practice the process on ones that aren't too crazy!
Used this question with Year 12s in #Alevelmaths #Mathstoday
Big discussion about "negative area" and the differences between each of the answers!
Also as always using the @studymaths.bsky.social mathsbot cam!
Using visualiser and mini whiteboards for feedback with year 9s in #MathsToday
Still not sure what my favourite way of doing these questions is...
Had my favourite reading year in 2025 - also very much enjoyed tracking everything on #storygraph. Will do some sort of fun book year in review thing over the next few days!
Our Wives under the Sea is the book that stayed with me the most all year! So sad so haunting so memorable
Ended up teaching median from a Histograms in #MathsToday to my Year 11s - one of those #AlevelMaths topics that sneaks into GCSE. How does reflecting the Histogram affect the median...
Wrote up a little blogpost on it here: chelekmaths.com/2025/12/17/v...
Column vector for a translation ๐
Worksheet where students need to describe a new function after a transformation has taken place
Finishing up transformations of functions with Year 11s in #Mathstoday Students were struggling with describing functions after the transformations so made this to practice it and then will try it out with A Level classes later
Worksheet can be found here: chelekmaths.com/a-level/

Worksheet where students need to find the range of different functions and then need to find functions of their own given the range
Domain and Range with year 13 in #MathsToday #AlevelMaths - lots to discuss on the second part of this worksheet!
We live streamed the second half on YouTube which made for a very very unexciting video but definitely added to the fun of it all

Some of our wonderful department finishing off our Mathsathon at 10pm last night! We had spent the day at work doing 100 GCSE Higher Papers as a team to raise money for Movember. Was unsurprisingly very silly but very enjoyable.

Mock Time for year 11s so also a fun time to make resources based on topics they struggled with!
Wrote a post about it here: chelekmaths.com/2025/11/19/e...
Some nice questions were made on the way #MathsToday
I wrote a bit about it here! I always like doing reverse chain rule first and then showing how you can use substitutions after (like how you can use substitution to differentiate with chain rule although we usually teach it by some sort of INSIDE X OUTSIDE thing too)

Discussing cursed methods in #mathstoday. Using a common denominator to divide algebraic fractions being near the top of the list...
Thank you! Been super fun. Trying not to finish the course too early with top set year 11 so really going for it with the weird looking questions and challenges
Finishing up Quadratic Inequalities in #Mathstoday with some tricky compound questions
Honestly didn't think about it at time of writing but definitely led to good conversation today!
Came after us doing these together and discussing whether we could blend our quadratics with our trig inequalities...
A Year 11 student wrote this question as an extension in #MathsToday following on from the questions we worked through below ๐ฎ
Definitely will be a fun qu to give my #AlevelMaths classes next week!
