📣New paper out📣: Cross‐range portability of genomic prediction may teach us something about evolutionary processes. That's particularly interesting for globally invasive plants, so check it out: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1...

How does development shape the variation evolution can act on?
In our new paper in @pnas.org , we bridge developmental dynamics and quantitative genetics, linking dynamical models of phenotype formation with the statistical parameters used to study evolutionary change

There are good initiatives focusing on training and leadership @UM6P (agc.um6p.ma) and @Stellenbosch's CERI (genomics.africa). Fruiting will take time but seeds were planted.

Photo of 9 slime mold sporangia that look like tiny, orange hot air balloons lined up in a somewhat disorderly row. The sporangia are on dark coloured, dead wood with bright green moss behind them.

The slime mold is about 0.5cm high.
Globally, no single day in 2025 was cooler than its 1991-2020 average.

It's this time of the year when we are happy to celebrate the new graduates from the AdaEvo lab! Congratulations to Dr Andhika R. Putra, Ana Krteska, MSc and Tiffany Gong, MSc!
I’m very pleased to share our latest work, led by the talented @cbuckley.bsky.social as part of his PhD. It’s our first attempt at studying #circadian rhythms in wheat with the help of some great collaborators @jesshyles.bsky.social @adaevo.bsky.social et al. #plantsci 🌾⏰ 1/7

🌱 Using ‘compelling’ methods, including #CryoET, researchers mapped spinach thylakoid membranes at single-molecule precision, revealing how photosynthetic complexes are organised and settling long-standing debates on chloroplast architecture.

Save the date! #PEQG26 June 9-12 2026 in Asilomar, CA. Happens only every 2yrs, but is my favorite conference. Full website coming soon, and registration and abstract submission opens November 14, but I'm allowed to tease that keynotes will be @jnovembre.bsky.social @jennytung.bsky.social and me!
Out after peer review, collaborative study from Nordborg & Weigel labs with help from many others. Not the largest collection of new Arabidopsis thaliana genomes, but we hopefully put forward some good ideas for how to think about pangenomes and their analysis!

While the per capita consumption of olive oil has remained steady (increasing with population), the consumption of kiwis or pistachios has seen its rise alongside population growth. Interestingly, increased fruit and vegetable consumption is often associated with economic improvement.
