๐ŸŒฑOur Tree Fern made it through another winter and has plenty of new growth. We unwrapped it on Monday. Has had a feed. The fronds and trunk will be misted every day.๐ŸŒฑ #gardening #bloomscrolling #treefern

How to pot on seedlings
How to pot on seedlings YouTube video by Stuart Bourne - Making gardening easier

As your seedlings germinate and start to grow, itโ€™s worth getting ready to potentially pot them on to larger pots.

Here is a short video I made demonstrating how to do this:

For Todayโ€™s #BirdOfTheDay theme of #Petals&Perches I have my new #Robin on his second visit to the garden plus #Tulips that my lovely wife helped plant in our garden last year for #Parkinsons Awareness Month but did not live to see.

She was such a gift to the world and still sadly missed. The Ballad of Barry and Freda is a classic, "spank me on the bottom with a Woman's Weekly"!

Lovely shots. The other half caught a few pics yesterday of a Blackbird foraging for worms. #birdoftheday #comeeatwithme

If that idiot knew anything about history he would know that the destruction of civilian infrastructure did not become a War Crime until after WWII. They cannot use the bombing of cities then as an excuse for their actions now.

Research suggests that protecting/enhancing existing #hedgerows with early blooming species like #willow, hawthorn, ground ivy, red dead-nettle, maple & cherry could improve bumblebee colony success rate from 35-100%.

Little can rival an old Scots pine for sheer force of personality and presence.

One of the earlier tree species to colonise Ireland after the last Ice Age, pine was thought to have completely died out due to deforestation, until a small residual population was confirmed in the Burren, Co. Clare.

Six pics from my garden this week, a nearly fully formed aquilegia flower bud, (looking like the eagles talons from which it gets its name), red wallflowers, white starbursts of wild garlic, a red and white vampire tulip, variagated green hosta foliage and the first red saxifrage flower. Thanks for reading.

Morning all, ah the sweetness of spring, after months of struggling to find #SixOnSaturday to share from my garden, suddenly the difficulty becomes "which six?" Have a good weekend sky-folk ๐ŸŒฑ

A collage of six pictures from my tiny garden this week. The large picture is a bright pink Azalea. The small pictures are white flowers and shiny green leaves of Christa ternata, one of the last tulips, a beautiful apricot colour, white flowers of Iberis, apple blossom from an ancient tree which was in the garden when I moved in and the lime green of Smyrmium perfoliata.

It's the time of year when all the selfseeded flowers start appearing in my garden. I don't know why I bother growing anything else. Honesty, violas, wild violets, Welsh poppies, forgetmenots, dandelion clock #SixOnSaturday

Two photos of bluebells posted side by side. They look very similar but text boxes and arrows highlight their key characteristics.
The photo on the left is of English bluebells wth curved, droopy stems with flowers mostly on one side. The tips of petals curl back, the flowers are narrow and deep blue-violet in colour.
The photo on the right is of Spanish bluebells which are pale blue with wide bell-shaped flowers. Flower tips flare out and the upright stems display flowers on all sides.

Are you able to identify which bluebells are the native English variety and which are the more vigorous Spanish bluebell? This might help.

Also, use your nose. The English bluebells have a sweet scent, whereas their Spanish cousins have little to no scent.

It is a truly wonderful film that I've watched many times. The scene where Catherine Johnson, brilliantly played by Taraji P Henson, confronts Mr Harrison over toilet breaks gets the hair on the back of my neck standing up each time I watch it.

Rewilding farmland, soon after the trees spring up unplanted, a host of wildflowers and other ground flora move in, like this wood sorrel. Then come the insects, followed by birds and other animals.

It's all just so beautiful, and so *hopeful*.
