HEY SOUTH AFRICANS
Did you see we've got a draft AI policy here in SA, with 60 days of public comment?
I'm thinking maybe we should do so, if you've got the energy/time
I found a very useful short article on it

We shared the work by done Love The Oceans, supported by #FSBIOutreachGrant, launching a gender inclusive Ocean School for adults in Jangamo, Mozambique, which also involved the translation of an ocean literacy book (Ocean Anatomy by Julia Rothman) to Mozambican Portuguese, providing further legacy
It is a well known holiday, the Holy Thursday. No work should happen
We are using Royal Canin Uro for years now, and it works really well. No more bladder infections for our elderly kitty
Allow me to scream into the void about the importance of accurate metadata for data curation and re-analyses.
What’s the point of making data available if there’s no metadata??
My brain right now 👇🏾

NOAA NWFSC & UW are looking for a postdoc (ASAP) in Seattle study foraging ecology of Cook Inlet beluga whales using eDNA. Genetics/ecology/eDNA experience preferred. Interested candidates reach out to kim.parsons@noaa.gov or rpkelly@uw.edu directly. #eDNA #ConsGen
Very interesting new preprint on detecting genome wide signatures of balancing selection (it’s hard, and we probably miss lots of them) www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Want to study the genomics of repeated adaptation with data from hundreds of species? New funding for non-Canadians @ grad or postdoc level. Internal competition at UCalgary with very short deadline so please get in touch ASAP!!

Detail from Figure 1 of the linked preprint: a diagram contrasting the two weasel morphs, one of which is brown in summer and white in winter, and the other of which is brown all year; with images of weasels in both forms of winter coat; and then nucleotide and amino acid sequences for the two MC1R variants underlying the two coat types
These weasels have locally adapted their winter coats to varying snow cover thanks to a million-year-old mutation 🌿
