I just felt sick when I heard that. I had seen BW on PBS a few years back and it looked incredible. I wanted to visit it one day.

Today, I posted my essay about how Republicans removed protections from the Boundary Waters while voting for pollution, and what you can do about it.

The photograph shows a Owl butterfly, known in particular for the large eye-like markings on the underside of its brown wings. These markings serve to deter natural predators.
It is perched on a green, fern-like twig. The background is blurred

The banner for Forest Friday has a background image of fern fronds in varying shades of green. The text says, "It is #ForestFriday. A weekly celebration of the outdoors & nature. If you are so inclined, post your forest-related photographs or artwork with the hashtag #ForestFriday. Happy trails, my friends."

Hopefully Bluesky is working. (Can you hear me now? 😁)

Let's celebrate forests, the outdoors and nature by sharing forest-related photos or artwork under the Forest Friday hashtag.

I think most of the heavier woods are in the mountains here, and are of the evergreen type, not deciduous, except for what was planted in cities on the plains, at least at this point of history. That may have something to do with it, perhaps.

Hmmm.... We don't have Fireflies in CO, like the map depicts. At least not that I have ever seen in my lifetime.

A closeup of a Black dog, probably a schnauzer/poodle mix although the owner never did a DNA test, with gray around his muzzle and eyes, his nose prominent in the photo, in a backyard with a contented look on his face that says "hey can I have a pretzel?"

Pure crap from @washingtonpost.com caving to a fascist, demented lunatic that threatens the entire planet in social media posts. I cannot even believe they are this far gone. They need to retire from the business entirely.

A connected pair of hoodoos appear to be facing in opposite directions. The angled slope upon which they stand is highly eroded, showing deep channels and on transverse line of deposition that cuts across the slope horizontally. Off to the right the land appears dry and desert-like as it continues toward the horizon. The sky shows radiating wispy, billowy clouds. Canon 6D, f/8, 20mm.

Interesting, I had volunteered with the US Forest Service back in the mid 80s, and my crew leader used a chainsaw to help us clear and build trails. It's not a sound I would care to hear at all in a forest though.

For Wilderness to Remain Wild, It Must Remain Unmanipulated The National Park Service plans to cut most of the trees surrounding these Giant Sequoias in the Lost Grove within Wilderness in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. Photo by René Voss, Wilderness...

A recent opinion article by a U.S. Forest Service research fellow supporting manipulating designated Wilderness areas showed a profound misunderstanding about Wilderness, its history, its stewardship policies, and the Wilderness Act itself.

The Mexican gray wolf, or lobo, is the smallest subspecies of gray wolf and also one of the most endangered carnivores in the world.

But Congress is attempting to silence the quintessential call of the lobo across the American Southwest!

welcome to Dear Leader’s latest moronic obsession. he’s decided that the columns on the facade of the White House are too boring, and he wants to completely redo them.

there goes two hundreds years of history, shitcanned with barely a moment’s forethought, to please the trashy aesthetics of the diaper-shittingest piss-baby ever to crap himself in the Oval Bordello.

for fuck’s sake, the White House isn’t Donny’s personal possession. it’s We the People’s House — yet he’s treating it as if it were just another one of his fugly golf motels. who the fuck does this asshole think is? didn’t eight million of us just remind him that he’s not our king?
