Powdered Quaker (Orthosia gracilis).
Unsurprisingly, there wasn't much in the trap this morning. Just three #moths: two Hebrew Characters and a Streamer. FOMO always triumphs over the disappointment of knowing exactly what to expect in the morning. ๐
A recent shot of a Powdered Quaker. #teammoth
That's a real beauty.
I'm definitely ready for some variety.
Waved Umber (Menophra abruptaria). NFY.
My first Waved Umber of the year from a few nights ago. Another one was on the kitchen window all day, but despite several trips to the sink throughout the day, I didn't notice it until the evening. It makes me wonder how many #moths I don't see that are right in front of me. #teammoth
I do like a Prominent. It's incredibly quiet here. I'm missing out on a number of moths that I should've seen by now.
It's in the garden but hasn't flown off yet. I haven't lit up since I trapped it three nights ago.
*third night. ๐
Pebble Prominent (Notodonta ziczac).
I've now had a few #moths that, after being trapped, haven't moved on the next night. Due to the nighttime temperatures, this Pebble Prominent has decided to treat my property as an Airbnb. It moves around the pot but doesn't go anywhere. It'll be its fourth night tonight.

I have an excessive number of seedings that are about an inch long. Any Conv. who visits my garden will find a feast waiting for them. ๐
Swallow Prominent (Pheosia tremula).
A Swallow Prominent from a day or so ago. It was lively as soon as I took it out of the pot, so I didn't have many chances to take pictures. #teammoth
Pebble Prominent (Notodonta ziczac). NFY.
This morning's Pebble Prominent NFY. There wasn't much in the trap, but this moth was worth the electricity. It even provided me with a few "I am dead!" shots. #teammoth
Swallow Prominent (Pheosia tremula). NFY.
A Swallow Prominent NFY from yesterday. Prominents are prominent right now; this morning, I got a Pebble Prominent for the first time this year. The only other NFY moth found in the trap earlier was a Twenty-plume. #teammoth
Common Pug (Eupithecia vulgata). NFY.
Double-striped Pug (Gymnoscelis rufifasciata).
Two pugs from this morning. I've included a photo of a Double-striped Pug because it looks better than another that I recently saw, and the Common Pug is NFY. I'm staying on top of the pugs so far. But I usually fall behind when the moth avalanche occurs. Not this year, though! #teammoth
Powdered Quaker (Orthosia gracilis).
Some #moths are at ease when playing dead, even if they're perilously balancing on the stem of a red dead-nettle. Ironic, considering this moth's name.

The Streamer (Anticlea derivata). NFY.
I was able to add five more NFY #moths to my meagre species total for the year this morning, thanks to a slight increase in temperature: Streamer, Common Pug, Waved Umber, Swallow Prominent, and Depressaria Radiella. #teammoth
I thought the same thing this morning. Small Quakers are looking the worse for wear also.
Yep. Highly annoying.
Wow! And what a beauty.
Lovely.
A Powdered Quaker NFY that I recently trapped. It was on the underside of the trap, so I almost missed it. There are a few spots on my Skinner where #moths like to hide, and to be honest, I occasionally forget to check. #teammoth
Chinese Character (Cilix glaucata).
When I checked this morning to make sure all of the #moths from the previous day had flown away, a few had chosen to remain. This is likely due to the temperature dropping sharply once more. A Chinese Character NFY had left the pot it was in and was now resting on the outside of it. #teammoth
Brindled Beauty (Lycia hirtaria). NFY.
Powdered Quaker, Chinese Character, Brindled Pug, and a lovely Brindled Beauty were the four NFY #moths I ended up with this morning. Given the moths I've been getting, an extra two degrees Celsius makes a big difference. #teammoth
I usually make mistakes, so I don't even "try" to give them names. Occasionally, I'll catch a glimpse of the folder out of the corner of my eye and pretend not to notice it. This year, I'm going to change my ways. ๐
Thank you.
Brindled Pug (Eupithecia abbreviata). NFY.
I typically store pictures of pugs in a folder on my computer and don't think about them until almost the end of the year, so I'll have to make an effort to stay on top of them this year. Something I seem to remember saying last year. ๐ In any case, I believe this to be a Brindled Pug NFY. #teammoth
That Mini-Merv is an absolute beauty.
Every year, until they reappear, I forget about them.
Common Wasp (Vespula vulgaris).
I really should know better by now and pick up and turn over egg trays from the edge because I almost touched a queen common wasp this morning. She's a beauty, though. She was obviously still too sleepy to object when I took a few pictures of her.
