OpenAccess science sounds great! But what if authors have to pay (Gold OA)? Well, clear biases appear: less participation from low and middle-income countries.

Find all about it in our new study led by Pablo Huais and Javi Nori 👇@oikosjournal.bsky.social

Are we thoroughly thinking/discussing about Open Access models? We invite you to think about OA not only as a chance to read science freely, but as an opportunity to make science more equitable, inclusive, with more voices from different places

Tree diversity is changing in the Amazon and Andes.

Belen Fadrique leads our analysis in @natecoevo.nature.com w/ 400 plots + 40 years of RAINFOR records.
www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Hot, drier, more fragmented forests are losing species. Many in the Andes + western Amazon are gaining them.

The UK government didn't want you to see this report on ecosystem collapse. I'm not surprised | George Monbiot It took an FOI request to bring this national security assessment to light. For ‘doomsayers’ like us, it is the ultimate vindication, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Please spread this far and wide, as stories don't get much bigger than this. When the government blocks even the intelligence services from telling us we're heading for environmental catastrophe, you know we have a problem. A very big problem.
Thank you.

🌿 New paper out in New Phytologist!

📊 Our global dataset shows that when considering species dominance & long‑term richness, higher diversity can actually destabilize populations.

✨ Excited to share these insights from plant communities across the world! 🌐🌍

Matching climate to biological scales Recent advances in climate modeling and remote sensing have increased the expectation that finer-grained climate data will improve biological relevance. However, the appropriate scale for biology depe...

New paper in TREE: we propose a framework to think more clearly about the scale of climate exposure of organisms—and why mismatches between climate data and biology can mislead ecological inference.
