Actually the above link proposes a third Devon site!

What does he think of the Battle of Hingston Down in 838 between Cornish and Vikings vs the Saxons. There's two Hingston downs, one in Cornwall, one in Devon, both located near roman roads, and navigible water ways. I believe the Devon one is now favoured: www.battlefieldstrust.com/cms/viewdoc....

The moth hopped onto my hand, and I was able to put it outside on a hanging basket.

Came downstairs to find this beauty in the hall. I believe it's a small phoenix moth and this is pretty early for them if I'm correct. #Cornwall #TeamMoth #Moths #NatureSky #Wildlife

A Strava posting showing an Evening Run (5x1 minute jog/5 x 1 minute walk) on a grassy field, with a distance of 0.79 miles, a pace of 12.21 mile and a time of 9.49 - even though I was continuously moving and I stopped the Garmin at 10.01 (wrinkles brow)

First run since my patella tendon repair surgery on a full rupture, 4 months ago (follow physio program). Felt a little stiff, but no more than that. Delighted to be back so soon, it has been a long road. #RunSky #Injury

Butterfly numbers are dropping but here are five species you may see more of A warming climate has helped some to flourish, researchers say, but the outlook is troubling.

This is a good (and hopeful) article about the important citizen science UKBMS project (of which I’m part of) that the negative headline doesn’t reflect www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... #Butterflies

Three large squat menhirs map out a rectangle pointing right wards. Next to the stone in the foreground is a tree with a red ribbon/ string around it. The grass is parched brown and practically non existent but trees and green foliage form the backdrop.

One corner of the Quadrilateral of Crucuno, #Brittany #Bretagne #Breizh, taken last summer. While stone circles are common, rectangles are quite rare. No idea what the red ribbon around the tree is for. #StandingStoneSunday

I’ve got a beat up second hand road bike on a turbo trainer (used to have my actual road bike on it but read about how they end up with far more stress than riding on road), connected to the free MyWhoosh platform, which is nice for measuring stats. Will get outside but major hills in all directions

Good mileage, I try and get in similar. And downhill has only eased in the last week or so started becoming more normal. But I’m at last confident at being able to haul the dog back when he sees a cat and we’re going downhill

Excellent progress! Today I walked 5.5 miles with the dog (who is recovering from his own op) I’ve been cleared to jog walk but hopping (a necessary precursor) caused some immediate discomfort lasting a day, so I’m holding off for now. On my indoor bike my ftp is over 90% of what it was pre accident

A smallish, ridged one metre and a half menhir appears to be emerging from a horse bush and stands overlooking a blue lake in the distance. There is a small clump of trees to the left and clouds cluster over the horizon but the sky is a lovely cerulean blue.

Tregarrick menhir overlooking Siblyback lake in #Cornwall. You could be tricked into thinking its siting involved the lake but the stone has been here for thousands of years and the lake just decades. Picture taken 2024 #StandingStoneSunday

A rain covered windscreen in deep blue. A land mass is just about visible, take my word for it that it is Cape Cornwall and that is the monument on top and not a smudge on the lens.

Excellent piece. Love Cape Cornwall , must have spent at least 3 birthdays there! We went down last year when staying in St Ives to eat chips and watch the sunset there. Didn’t quite go to plan…

Nor had I (and I lived near Alcester for many years) Monday I had to drive from Evesham to Tewkesbury and looked at @megalithic.bsky.social ‘s map to see anything interesting en route. Outside Aston Cross, turn left at the roundabout and there it is! Also mentioned on Modern Antiquarian web site

The Tibblestone, an ancient pitted stone on a crossroads near Tewkesbury on a garage forecourt. Lost and found buried by a gardener in 1948. One of Gloucestershire’s very few standing stones. #StandingStoneSunday #UrbanPrehistory

Four upright granite menhirs, of which only 3 are tall enough to reach, barely a huge triangular UFO/UAP like capstone. The sky is overcast and grey, a hedgerow lines the horizon with a single tree and below the dolmen are scattered stones in the grass, three forming an arc underneath the dolmen itself.

Pentre Ifan from Halloween 2024, doing its almost levitating capstone bit. A wonderful illusion that must have been part of its grandeur. #TombTuesday
