They are terminating STEM education grants -- the grants that help you and your kids get access to a better and more effective learning experience. They are terminating grants that help everyone access careers in STEM, regardless of race or ability.
They are stealing from you. Don't let them.
This is an absolute disaster. If we don't stop this, they will turn NSF into a pawn of the Trump administration. There will be no research on climate, biodiversity, or anything that isn't eugenics or AI or how to more efficiently destroy the planet for profit.
This cannot be allowed to happen.
SSE, SSB, and ASN logos. Text: Tri-societies Week of Action for NSF. Science under siege: Over 1000 NSF grants have been terminated by political appointees- threatening the foundation of American innovation and education, and more cuts loom; entire research programs are being erased without explanation. Upset about federal funding cuts in the US? Want some ideas of what to do? I wrote a long-ish blog post about it here

New: A NOAA lab in Hawaii that is connected to the longest-running observation of global greenhouse gas concentrations is slated for closure in August, according to a list of lease terminations Democratic members of Congress shared with @washingtonpost.com.
More useful kit from Rudolf Meier’s group to streamline insect sequencing at scale
Upon learning that yesterday would be my last day as a program officer at the National Science Foundation, I shared this parting message with my colleagues. The next few months will be frenetic and stressful for them. Here are some things that you can do to help them with the mission ahead. (1)
If you wanted to destroy higher ed, this is part of how you do it. I don't think a lot of folks realize how much U.S. universities rely on federal grant funding to keep the lights on, particularly in the past 20 years as the government has continuously cut tuition subsidy.

We "didn’t cause the climate crisis by heating our homes or buying bottled water..a point brilliantly illustrated by MIT students who calculated that even if Americans lived without homes or as itinerant monks, our carbon footprints would still be 2x the global average"

Switching from internet to zoom phone so campus can save money. With new training, websites etc. How often do campuses think through: "we save $100,000, but use 1.5hrs of prof time with 5,000 profs getting paid $75/hr and.. oh shit we just spent $550K on salary to save $100K" .. I'm guessing never
I would love to be added!

Going to test out the power of new followers! Does anyone here (or do you know anyone who) teach statistics (specifically GLMs) to primarily ecology/evolution/bio students and would be willing to potentially review a book proposal?
Speaking as an anthropologist, I would strongly, STRONGLY advise you to start preserving physical media of things that are important to you, especially racially or queer focused media.
That means physical books, physical DVDs, and digital files stored locally.

Take your pick!
My "Adventures in time" collection explores the idea of what would it be like to take a holiday back through Earth's geological past (with a humorous spin and plenty of anachronisms). So far, you have eight geological periods to choose from (all prints are linked in my profile)
