Me, the one time a week after I socialize.

The telegraph has been decrying the death of the (white) male writer for years. Meanwhile, as I rearranged the new-in nature hardbacks on wed night I realised I had 4 displays shelves all by men - 90% white men - mostly on birds. All interesting books, but (!). It was partly a fluke of timing.
Nature reports that the National Science Foundation has stopped awarding new grants and allotting funds to existing ones. All of them. @colincarlson.bsky.social says that unless the freeze is lifted, it โis going to destroy people's labs.โ 2/10

Brian Eno 2h. On the Arrest of Young People at a Quaker Meeting House Last night, six young people were arrested by police during a peaceful gathering at a Quaker Meeting House. They had assembled to talk, reflect, and organise around two issues of overwhelming moral gravity: the climate emergency, and the continuing destruction in Gaza. That the police chose to forcibly enter a Quaker space-a site known throughout history for its deep commitment to peace and nonviolenceโis both alarming and telling. These young people were not disrupting the peace. They were enacting it. We live in a time where the greatest threats to our future go unchallenged by those in power, while those who speak out are increasingly met with suspicion, hostility, and force. When the state begins to treat moral concern as criminal intent, we should all be paying close attention. The people arrested last night were not extremists. They were citizens who care-young people who see the interconnected crises of climate collapse and human suffering and refuse to turn away. They gathered not in violent defiance, but in peaceful conscience. I stand with them. I believe their voices are not only valid, but vital. If the institutions meant to protect us cannot bear to hear these voices, then it is not the protesters who are disrupting orderโit is the silence of those who look away. - Brian Eno
Worth sharing with alt text. Brian Eno's response to the Quaker arrests.

"The real mortality figure is probably unknowable, not least because so many families have been killed at once, leaving no one to account for some babies or toddlers ever having existed."
mayatcontreras โบ ice 19h I think the media needs to stop saying the word "arrested" especially when a person has not been formally accused of any crimes and the person's lawyer cannot locate them. People are being *kidnapped* by the federal government, kidnapped. abo NEWS abcnews * 22h A Tufts University PhD student on a visa was arrested by immigration authorities outside of Boston on Tuesday night, according to the school and the student's lawyer.
I said this on the other site, but I think the media needs to stop using the word โarrestedโ if a person hasnโt committed any crimes, hasnโt been read Miranda rights, hasnโt been formally charged with anything and their family and lawyer doesnโt know where they are. Itโs kidnapping. Itโs abduction.
Four panels show the growth and changes of Luna, a calico cat. In the top left panel, the white cat mom with her kittens on the birthday is shown. The top right panel shows Luna at a few weeks old, looking straight at the camera. To the left of her, two of her white-colored siblings are asleep. The bottom left panel shows Luna at four months old, lying on a grey sheet, on the first day she moved in with me. The bottom right corner shows Luna being relaxed and sleeping on her back, belly showing, on a blue and green blanket. The photo is only a few weeks old and shows her as a fully-grown calico cat.
The moonlight of my heart, Luna, turned 2 this week.
The biggest blessing in my chronic-illness life ๐ฉทโจ๐

โImagine that this disease comes from a common virus โ one so common you might catch it at the supermarket, at school, or on the bus. Imagine that recent studies have shown that this virus โ the one thatโs everywhere you go โ can linger in your body for more than a year after infection.โ
It's Long Covid Awareness Day.
I'm three years in. How about y'all?
There are two pictures. The picture on top is black and white with a white woman with dark short hair lying in bed. On the bottom colorful photo is the same white woman with slightly longer hair wearing a blue headband and a bright red jacket. She smiles into the camera while standing next to a young girl whose face is hidden behind a heart. They are standing in front of a lake with mountains in the distance that are partly hidden behind clouds.

The text Still Sick Still Ignored Still Fighting Long Covid Awareness Day 2025 is in white and pink text on a black background. There is a smiley face in red with letter x for eyes and a zigzag style mouth suggesting the emoji is sick and tired. The small text Berlin Buyers Club is in the top left hand corner.

YOU KNOW THE RULE
"A screenshot of an NBC News article headline. The headline reads: 'Texas bill would make identifying as transgender a felony punishable by jail.' Below the headline, a subtext states: 'The bill, while unlikely to pass, highlights the increasing extremism of legislation targeting trans people, especially in Texas, in recent years.' The NBC News logo is visible at the top, along with a navigation bar that includes a 'WATCH' button and a user profile icon."
I need y'all to sit with this headline and understand what is being done to our community. They're trying to criminalize our very existence.
This is a campaign of eradication.

If you think this is something that only concerns the global south, you may want to pick up a good book.
Actually practically any book older than about 80 years will do.
At least the pandemic is over (cough *sarcasm* cough) and we're "back to normal" ๐คฆ๐ป

Light peach background with black writing at the top that says, "What is Cognitive Impairment?" Lower and to the left is copy that says, "People with ME/CFS experience slowed information processing, trouble finding words, and low cognitive stamina. Often, this worsens when in PEM." Next to this copy is a cartoon image of a woman with her hands to the sides of her head. Her expression shows that she may be overwhelmed or frustrated because she doesn't understand.
Cognitive impairment in ME/CFS can include: โก๏ธ Slower reaction times โก๏ธ Memory & focus issues โก๏ธ Difficulty processing info
Cognitive impairment can worsen with PEM & orthostatic stress.
