Didn't think I'd have time for #TombTuesday today - but here from a trip ten years ago with our boys and some lovely friends. Kings Quoit perched on the cliff above the beach at Manorbier in Pembrokeshire. Don't be fooled by the sunshine - I remember that day as being freezing!

A view of some of the standing stones which form part of one of the three Hurlers stone circles. Set on moorland, the photo is taken facing west as the sun is setting creating a golden coloured sky.

The Hurlers northern circle for #StandingStoneSunday taken last weekend while on an early evening walk at the end of a day spent up on the moors and alternately battered by hail, and bathed in sunshine. #BodminMoor

In the foreground copies of hypocaust pilae are stacked in rows, once under the floor of the bathhouse at Wroxeter. The originals were discovered when the site was excavated in 1859, but subsequently looted. In the background a large, substantial surviving section of the building wall stands tall. The bricks are all reddish in colour.

A #RomanSiteSaturday pic from an impromptu visit to Wroxeter or Viroconium Cornoviorum yesterday. Had to take the opportunity while I was so close as back to Cornwall later today where the Roman evidence is less obvious.

Small detour between the Black Country and Keele Uni where I'm meeting no.2 son for a catch up today. So here's a #FindsFriday from Wroxeter near Shrewsbury. Little bronze statuette of the goddess Diana.

The Rillaton Barrow near Minions on Bodmin Moor. #TombTuesday The Rillaton gold cup was discovered with a burial in the cist here in 1837, now in the British Museum and a copy in the Truro Museum. It should be the other way around!

Restormal Castle, Lostwithiel for #RomanFortThursday Ignore the beautiful castle, and look beyond the gateway to the fields opposite (above the carpark if you know it). Not much to see, but there once stood a Roman Fort. Heritage Gateway - Results share.google/p2HIl8NokDt1...

Here's what remains of a beautiful cairn, one of several at the summit of Caradon Hill. My Easter holiday plans include time up here this week planning a walk for CAS in July (eek!) #TombTuesday #Cornwall

One fallen stone in the foreground and two standing which are some of the remaining standing stones of the Trippet stone circle on Bodmin Moor near Blisland. We caught the edge of Storm Dave which caused very high winds - I couldn't keep the camera still so the picture is blurry from that and using night settings.

Blurry pic of part of the Trippet Stone circle. Taken last night in low light/high winds while on a dark skies walk with @cornishbirdblog.com and Carolyn Kennett. Sadly no stars, but we safely completed the walk from here to the Stripple Stones #StandingStoneSunday #StormDave #Cornwall

Colvannick Stone row on Cardinham Moor. #StandingStoneSunday My pics aren't great taken on such a gloomy day. The stones are impressively tall - Bodmin Moor alignments tend to comprise of much smaller stones. Must go back on a sunnier day. It's close to a firing range - so watch out for red flags.

Video

A bit of a stretch for #StandingStoneSunday - but I've seen Chysauster posted before. A hazy video for #MothersDay of my babies (not so cute any more!) taken around 2008, I think. None of them have grown up to show any interest in archaeology.

My Sunday mystery tour to try and cheer up @chrisull.bsky.social as he was feeling ill - probably with the cold I generously shared from school. #HillfortsWednesday. Obviously I also snuck a trip to a nearby neolithic site I wanted to see, but my photos are terrible of that, so I need to go back.

Many standing stones arranged in "ship shape", probably from the Iron Age, but possibly earlier (or from what I understand something there earlier). A cliff top site overlooking the sea in southern Sweden.

Ales Stenar in Scania has lots!?!? Not sure it's early though. Sorry for the terrible pic.

A photo taken on a wet day from behind a car window showing several standing stones - of those visible two are tall and two are much smaller. A fence and small trees obscure the view of the circle which has nine stones.

The Nine Stones at Winterbourne Abbas, pic taken while driving past on the A35 (I wasn't doing the driving!). I was surprised I actually got them. No time to stop and have a proper look on this occasion, and of course it was pouring with rain. #StandingStoneSunday

A small section of the Craddock Moor stone row. 244m long, the stones are tiny so my photos don't really do it justice. Set in a landscape that includes cairns, an embanked avenue and a stone circle, one of my favourite places to explore in St. Cleer. #StandingStoneSunday

A large stone cairn partially covered with turf on open moorland.

Out and about on the Craddock Moor area of Bodmin Moor to see this #TombTuesday cairn which is one we watch due to damage by some idiot(s). From this angle it doesn't look too bad, but we now have a fairy stack with the various other rearranging that's gone on. historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-...

It will be worth the wait. I had plans this week to catch up on some area rep bits and pieces for CAS but not sure that will happen. I don't mind a bit of rain, but what's the point of being out on the moors when you can't see where you're going!
