got some bad news, there still no jobs and now you also know nothing
in two weeks some of my isopods have grown from barely visible to over half an inch long!

i'm so excited freshwater isopods are starting to be seen in the aquarium hobby!
i remember trying to find a hobby breeder or any information on keeping these guys years ago and found almost nothing, but now i'm starting to see more people intentionally add them to their tanks :)
set up a new tank to start a freshwater isopod colony... obsessed with them

Today, my first large paper on Colorado Scarabaeoidea was published by Insecta Mundi covering 28 species, with several new state records. It is the first in a series of papers covering distribution, phenology and ecology of Colorado scarabaeoid beetles.
Chaunacops are one of the neater fish I've seen on the seafloor. I wonder if the skin feels rubbery or slimy? This one deflates itself. Their side profile is hilarious, so I put a video of that ⬇️. #SchmidtOcean dive 639 #SEPacificSeamounts #MarineLife

"...the Australian Institute of Marine Science said one area around Cooktown and Lizard Island had lost more than a third of its live hard coral – the biggest annual drop in 39 years of monitoring."

In all the years I have been watching divestreams (roughly 10 yrs) I have never seen a heterpod/sea elephant. This pelagic snail was massive, about 30cm. The vestigial shell is at the bottom, modified foot sticking out like a fin from the side, & a proboscis snout. #natiluslive #marinelife #palau
Cute little octo, hermit crab using a scaphopod shell as a home, evidently this sea pen has questions, & nudibranch eggs

In environmental conservation spaces there’s this tendency for those with a social science background to default to a “knowledge gap” model of problems …
“But octopus evolution led them to develop a taste for greasy things, while squid and cuttlefish evolution tweaked the brain proteins to detect bitter compounds, the researchers discovered”.

At depths over 6,000 meters, researchers have discovered “faceless” fish with no visible eyes or nose, relying on unique sensory adaptations to navigate in complete darkness. #marinelife
The Satinfin Shiner (Cyprinella analostana) is a true minnow native to NY south to SC. While many people call any small fish "minnows", that is often inaccurate because not every small fish is related. However, shiners are considered true minnows belonging to the Family Leuciscidae (1/5) 🐟🐙🦈🐋🧪🐡🐠
A massive coral colony dwarfing a single diver
On Wednesday, a team of researchers in the Solomon Islands revealed that they found the world’s largest individual coral colony. It’s the size of two basketball courts.
Just look at this chonky boy!
Move over, blue whale. This 300+ year old 34m coral is now the largest animal* known. Hopefully its depth, as described, can keep it going 🦑🧪

A lot of people have shared this poem over the past week. It’s a sentiment I think about a lot, especially now.
I hope everyone is doing what they need to take care of themselves. One step at a time. One day at a time.
