Students love my rubber band filled ballā¦but we used ones that actually bounce for this!
Posts by Lisa Emerson
Yesterday in #ALevelMaths we had lots of fun bouncing balls - calculating the coefficient of restitution and then using it to estimate the height of the room. Organised chaos! An activity picked up from the AMSP / MEI further mech course.
Iām hoping to examine this year, but havenāt received a contract yet.
I was there!
Have you done it before? How much teacher involvement is there? It looks like students just enter and participate independently?
Iād missed thisā¦may have left it too late to get involved this year.
Ok. So I tried this with my pure A Level marking. It meant a hellish start on Q15 yesterday, but I really appreciated the ease of the ālaterā questions todayā¦although a vectors question at #6 was not welcome!
Thatās a brilliant idea! Iām trying it tomorrow!
In #MathsToday, my FM #ALevelMaths classes got totally absorbed doing the volumes of revolution āCrackTheCodeā activity from @draustinmaths.com - thanks for sharing such great resources!

The #BM100 sheet has a 2026 tab now!
- Not a primary source, and neither are most of its sources, WILL contain misinformation
- Don't share screenshots, share the link, so people see corrections
- Refresh the page manually even if it says it can do it automatically

Not a helpful chart, but approximately 8.5 hours in; we could see first loop finishers soon if conditions aren't too nasty #bm100
In #MathsToday we took 20 year 12 students to Maths Fest at the Royal Institute - what a brilliant and engaging day of maths fun!
Sure, I found it on resourceaholic

3*3 bingo card of phrases I say a lot each day, eg "have you checked the formula book?"
I've started a "Maths lesson Bingo" with my students. Can anyone suggest some phrases for my next card to be 4*4?

Thanks for all the ideas! This is my mech class, so they wonāt do FP1ā¦but I have taught them cross product anyway!
ā¦I always forget about examwizard - thanks!
Yesā¦Iād been meaning to buy this for ages (as I love the ALevel one)ā¦and actually got round to buying it this morning when I realised it probably has exactly what I need! Am assuming I wonāt have it by Thursday though!!
#ALevelMaths #Mathstoday Teaching CP1 vectors to year 12 FM -one of my favourite topics to teach, but I can never find enough practice questions to build confidence. Does anyone know where I can get a bank of questions on the shortest distances type questions (point and line, point and plane, etc)?

I always check your feed when Iām looking for inspiration. Thanks for maybe great reads over the yearsā¦and hears to more in 2026!
Also just got this email. Brilliant tasks, updated. š«¶š»
I havenāt read any of her others. Would you also recommend them.
Iāve read a lot this year (including many youāve recommended). Really enjoyed both of these
Last minute #Alevelmaths homework planning for this afternoon and just discovered these - exactly what I needed for a binomial expansion homework. Thanks Jethwa maths if you are on here!

ā¤ļø Love this ā¤ļø
@mathforge.org has done what Iāve never been organised enough to do myself, and catalogued every #geometrypuzzle Iāve ever posted on social media. It looks amazing!
X~N (50,21) a) Find P(X<54) b) Find a such that P(X>a) = 0.1 c) Find K such that P (KX<60) = 0.5 d) Fund P (2X-30<54)
Worked solutions to parts c and d using two different methods.
Todayās Y13 starter - I really like how c & d can be solved either by changing the inequality and using the original distribution, or by transforming the distribution and using the original values. #MathsToday #ALevelMaths
Is anyone else heading to the Further Mathematics Conference in London today? Iām looking forward to a day out of college doing #ALevelMaths!
