American softshell?

The head and front legs of a large gray lizard (they can grow to a length of about 1 meter) that is standing on top of one rock and under another. The lizard has yellow markings around its eye.

I came across an old folder containing photos I took while we were in #Tucson, Arizona, several years ago, and found this photo of a hybrid Sonoran/San Esteban spiny-tailed iguana. It's among the large population at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. #herps

NEW PERSONAL WORK

I had a dream I was drawing thumbnails, and - in the dream - sketched this out and titled it "The Dreamer". That was striking enough that I woke up, sketched out the thumbnail in real life, and then sat on it for like eight years. Until now!

A new species of skink, Scincella verecunda, was recently identified in China's Yunnan Province. Because it lacks a common eyelid feature typically found in its relatives, a reconsideration of how this entire genus is scientifically defined was proposed. 🦎🔍
