Yall. The things @cullerpictures.bsky.social and I are cooking up for #CampRevPit are going to be SO fun...
Who is planning a trip into the trenches after camp?
Posts by Miranda Darrow (she/her)
Gearing up for #camprevpit 2026, and I totally forgot to mention that one of the short stories I developed through prompts and activities in last year's #CRPWizardWasps cabin got sold and published in October.
This year's camp starts on 4/11. Last year was great, let's make this year even better!
I just Zoom chatted with my #RevPit winner @jackieyap.bsky.social so excited to work with her.
I have sent emails to my #10Queries winners, so check your email (or spam filters) back to Monday when I started dropping them.
Thank you, authors, for submitting to the annual contest.

It's finally here! Time to announce our 2026 #RevPit Annual Contest winners and runners-up!

Editor Miranda Darrow @miranda-darrow.bsky.social will work with Jackie Yap @jackieyap.bsky.social on ISABELLE GOMEZ IS INNOCENT, SHE SWEARS (YA Mystery) #RevPit
As winners are going to be announced this afternoon, I want to take a minute to talk about losing a contest like #RevPit. Real talk—the majority of people who submit will not win an edit, because there are many more subs than editors. 1/7
WELCOME TO PREVIEW WEEK!
While we're waiting for our winners, let's go over what you need for camp.
1st- What is #CampRevPit?
#CampRevPit came out of the 2020 Annual Contest when mental health was suffering and was an idea for how to help writers cope with rejection after winners were announced.
I just saw this post by Erin Niumata that shows how to draft a more specific query blurb. It focuses on mystery but applies across genres:

I prefer character-driven, so all the tech and worldbuilding is filtered by how those facts impact the POV character
The same setting could be a paradise or a prison, depending on how the POV character views the world and their place in it. Filter worldbuilding through how the POV character sees it
The quality of the submissions this year was top notch
The #RevPit editors are going to have a tough time picking winners
Get involved in the online writing community, find critique partners, make writing friends.
Good luck, writers. We're pulling for you all!
That's a wrap, my 50 #RevPit #10Queries posts for the 2026 annual contest.
If you can't find them all, start with the first post (pinned to my profile) and follow the sub numbers down, clicking on the "additional replies" to keep following my subs in order when the tree branches.
Happy Writing!

The stakes are high in this sub.
I feel for the main character (MC) already in the sample pages.
That is really the goal of first pages, to get readers invested in your MC and invested in seeing if they get what they want (and how).
49 #YA #F #10Queries #RevPit
For fantasy that starts in our world, recommend a hint of fantasy elements.
This sub nails it with clocks behaving oddly, which was one of my trends in my subs this year.
Loved it.
48 #YA #F #10Queries #RevPit
I love learning about different professions and hobbies
This sub fit the bill, teaching me a new word in the process
Haven't seen than one in a decade of Word of the Day calendars
47 #A #F #10Queries #RevPit
Interesting study in perspective, what we are taught when we're young contrasting to what we learn as we grow.
The premise is prepacked with conflict for days.
46 #YA #F #10Queries #RevPit
Like the concept of this retelling with a new angle.
The character voice for the POV character reads a bit young for this main character's age and #YA category.
It is tricky to nail MG and YA voice.
Some of my #RevPit #10Queries subs today had just a little fantasy, but the rest of today's set are full on #F fantasy genre. Buckle up for the final stretch.
We're to the halfway through stretch break for this #RevPit #10Queries session
45 #YA #F #10Queries #RevPit
Georgeously drawn first scene
Good grounding in the MC's perspective while seeing the fantasy universe at play.
Be consistent and clear on the rules of your fantasy universe.
44 #A #M #10Queries #RevPit
Reminded me of Jason Bourne, MC trying to figure everything out while in an unfamiliar place.
It's easy to make this too confusing and lose readers, but this nailed it.
Just the right amount of what's going on and who am I grounded in what they do know.
43 #A #SF #10Queries #RevPit
For stories with elements from multiple genres, it can be tricky to figure out how to pitch it.
But if the speculative element doesn't appear in the sample pages, consider inserting a hint of the speculative elements
OR
consider pitching as a different genre
42 #A #M #10Queries #RevPit
Loved the concept, very Black Mirror
Good opening scene, introducing the central conflict without info-dumping the story universe
Is this more mystery or speculative (dystopian)?
41 #YA #C #10Queries #RevPit
Inviting first scene that grounds the readers in the story universe.
Nice job introducing the main character and showing their goal, motivation & conflict (GMC) while showing disability rep.
To set the mood for this #RevPit #10Queries session, today's playlist includes Aldo Nova's Fantasy and Never Ending Story by Limahl.
Note - this was a song and a fantasy genre movie before the song appeared in Stranger Things. But now I picture Dusty singing it.

Welcome back, Revelers, for my 5th and final #10Queries session for #RevPit 2026!
See the top of the thread for hashtag definitions.
Today's a mixed bag with #C #M #SF and a bunch of #F genres, all with a speculative element.
Join me tomorrow for my fifth and final #RevPit #10Queries set where I tackle a bit of a mixed bag.
It has mutliple genres, but they all have a speculative or fantasy element (or a whole bunch of them.
Until then, enjoy Aldo Nova's Fantasy

Okay, that's my #RevPit #M #10Queries session.
Please enjoy while jamming to Elvis Costello's Watching the Detectives or Michael Jackson's Thriller or other suspenseful hits of your era.

I like the banter between the two competitng leads.
The relatively recent cold case reminded me of Bad Tourists by Caro Carver
The query letter is too long for traditional publishing
39 #A #M #10Queries #RevPit
I like the epistolary elements
Clarify whether the main POV character is reading them or if they're independent
Unless that's an element of the mystery, like Rock, Paper, Scissors
