I’ve been asked how to structure and write short stories by members of my #CampRevPit #CRPWizardWasps cabin and other #WritersofBluesky recently. The most common piece of advice I’ve seen to that end is, read a bunch of short stories first. That’s great advice, but it doesn’t answer the question.
This week I'm going to query again with my revised package. After a query batch, I usually take a writing break to read comps/TBR list, but I'm jazzed up to work on my speculative WIP because of Camp, so I may "cheat" and do that instead this month. #CRPWizardWasps

For the next week: finish up this mid-novel chapter finally. For the next month: write the next four chapters. #CRPWizardWasps

Good evening, #CRPWizardWasps! Action scenes can be page turners when they’re unique, or make readers tune out when they aren’t. One way to make them work is to tie the action to the character’s identity in such a way that no two fight scenes could be interchangeable between characters.
For the space opera, I received eye-opening feedback for the query and the the first 5 pages. I've worked on that version of the query and another in the past few days. The new novel opening feels stronger.

I've definitely added a bit to the alien novel. Not sure what I want to do with it in the end, so I'm hesitating on the next step and have kind of stalled. But activities here have added to the ending, which it needed no matter what I did.

Anyone who has seen my work will tell you I have a severe POV wobble problem. Since I was a solo writer, with no formal training, I had no idea.
Having people point out when I am drifting has forced me to learn the mechanics of writing, and not just guzzle plot 😊.

Most of my short stories have been from flash fiction prompts. I occasionally participated in, and now host, a weekly FF challenge on AW. Every December, there's a daily FFC prompt. Some stories are in my novel worlds, some are new. #CRPWizardWasps

I always struggle with character development and arcs. I'm all about the plot and get carried away by it, then have to go back at the revision stage to give depth and meaning to my cast of players.
