Turning cities into havens for bees: #UrbanBEE deploys solitary bee hotels across cities across Africa and Europe, blending urban biodiversity research with citizen science to understand and promote pollinator populations and environmental custodianship. #BiodivNBS

Pollinators are disappearing.
Most bees are solitary. They don’t live in hives, but they quietly pollinate fruits, vegetables, and wild plants that sustain us. Projects like UrbanBEE show how small actions matter, have a look at what they are doing and sign up to save the Bee's!
I’m thrilled to share the launch of the UrbanBEE website! 🐝🌍 Check it out at www.myurbanbee.com. This first month has been intense, but we’ve already connected with many citizen science enthusiasts—and distributed 30 bee hotels in Turin! Excited to see what’s next! 🚀💛 #UrbanBEE #CitizenScience #Bees

The UK’s #wildlife is under increasing pressure, and #gardens are becoming ever more important.
That’s exactly why the Wildlife Gardening Virtual Symposium has become such a valuable (& free!) annual event.

8 years ago, I started working with cavity-nesting Hymenopterans using the trap-nest method. Based on Hungarian projects and these experiences, we compiled a practical protocol for researchers who are using trap nests for the first time

The file with the final figures is finally finished! Sadly the stochastic map is way too high fidelity for the publication - but if you'd like the high resolution PDF of that figure to make a nice poster, here's the link! therusselllab.wordpress.com/wp-content/u...

One more piece of evidence, on a growing pile, that insects are in decline.
"...the general species turnover and biomass trends emphasize ongoing arthropod community simplification, and that even common species may be increasingly under threat."

Educational comic explaining IPBES across four panels. Top panel shows a landscape with joined hands rising above it, illustrating global cooperation. Second panel features Earth with red bands around it, comparing IPBES to IPCC. Third panel shows IPBES activities through icons: a lightbulb for assessments, a hand for policy support, and a person with a megaphone for communication. Bottom panel depicts three superhero-styled figures representing different ways to interact with IPBES. Includes logos and artist credit for Michaël Olbrechts.

I attended the SCAPE Conference for the first time. The atmosphere and the spirit were wonderful! It was inspiring to be surrounded by researchers who share the same passion for pollinators.
I finally met my SEPPI project colleagues in person after many online meetings. Hope to meet again next year!
Rearing insects in class is an excellent science education tool, but using non-native insects can lead to ethical and environmental issues. Native insects should be prioritised! Great paper exploring this overlooked issue #RESInsectConsDiv 🌏🧪
