Curlew is my C offer for today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme #ABCD. These birds were photographed as part of my voluntary work with the Melbreak Curlew Recovery Project. We identify, monitor, protect nests and raise awareness. UK Curlews have declined by 60% since 1970. #nature #birds #ECK #conservation

Thanks Alan. It was very obliging of it to land on my rusty railings that matched its colouring.

Thanks Alan. And thanks for all the great themes that you and Rob come up with. It’s lovely to be able to share moments that would otherwise just sit in my photo archives.

I saw my first house martin of the year this week. Hopefully the swallows won’t be too far behind. #SmallBirdsInFlight #BirdOfTheDay

Two #BirdOfTheDay themes in one. A water rail by the waterside. It was running around my feet as it didn’t want to walk on the iced surface. #weather #riverbank

I feel judged. This juvenile sparrowhawk had plenty of #attitude. It was eyeballing me through the window and then quietly carried on waiting for breakfast to arrive. #BirdOfTheDay #nature #ECK #EastCoastkin

Certainly is in the light. Much of the year it is cloaked in cloud. It rains here… a lot!

A dumpy little swallow chick. It had recently fledged and the chicks were using my washing line as a place to rest between test flights and feeding by parents. #Migratory #BirdOfTheDay #nature #EastCoastKin #ECK

Ennerdale. The most remote valley in England and the location of a rewilding project where land is grazed by ancient breed cattle and pigs. Water voles were recently released there and if plans go ahead, beaver will follow. #stunday #photography #nature #rewilding

Thanks Rob. It was more accidental than intentional as I had my finger on the button as I ducked. The live shot is hilarious with the last frame just being its feet in the picture as it skimmed my head.

An eagle owl #LookingAtMe is today’s #BirdOfTheDay As fierce as it looks, it was heading for a snack and I happened to be in the way. The advice given was ‘stay still… unless it flies at you then duck’, which I mostly certainly did. #nature #birds

A lovely little Jenny wren that I rescued from my lounge a few years ago. Cheeky mite decided my skinny whippet looked twig- like and sat on his back. #Wrensday #nature #photography

I was visited by a sparrowhawk this week. It was under my #Feeders but left without finding anything to prey on. There is lots of cover so all the birds and rodents were nowhere to be seen.
#BirdOfTheDay #Birds #nature #photography It reappears from behind the bush in the second clip attached.

Siskin, redpoll, goldfinch and greenfinch all gather at the #Feeders for today’s. Apparently a gathering like this when feeding is termed a mixed flock aggregation. #BirdOfTheDay #nature #photography #birds
