Disparity of cycad leaves dispels the living fossil metaphor - Communications Biology An analysis of leaf disparity through time in cycads shows that this group has a dynamic and expanding morphological diversity until the present, and thus does not fit the ‘living fossil’ hypothesis o...

Hey, science folks of Bluesky! Addgene has announced that it is fully committing to leaving X. They are taking a hit in their social media visibility to do this, but they have good reasons (blog.addgene.org/addgene-is-s...), as many of us do. Please give them a follow: @addgene.bsky.social

A STNG meme where Dr. Beverly Crusher defines "hot" as 1.9 million Kelvin, with text "Later:" and Capt. Picard orders Tea. Early Grey. Hot. The result is a plasma-hot cup of earl grey that blasts the captain into a skeleton.

I'm not the original author, but for the life of me, I can't find who did create it first.

Contrary to my previous belief, root size doesn't seem to determine the number of xylem poles. Legume roots of different "thickness" can display 3 or 4 xylem poles. What could be the genetic basis (evo-devo) of different xylem pole numbers? #rootbiology #plantbiology

A postdoc position (E13 TV-L 100%, 3 years) is available in the Evolution of Plant Signaling Lab at the ZMBP (Tübingen, Germany) to work on the regulation of receptor kinases in the green lineage. Using an evolutionary approach and diverse model species including Marchantia, we will characterise the role of these signaling pathways in plant immunity and development. We are looking for a highly motivated, curiosity-driven candidate with a PhD in plant molecular biology, and experience in molecular biology and biochemistry. Excellent writing and communication skills in English and teamwork abilities are required. Interested applicants should send a single PDF file to Isabel Monte (isabel.monte@zmbp.uni-tuebingen.de) comprising a motivation letter describing your research interests, an up-to-date CV, and names of two references before 31st October 2023. The position is immediately available, but the starting date is flexible (preferably by the end of 2023 or beginning 2024).
