A seat in the shade this afternoon beneath the Turkish Hazel with its twin trunks in Abbey Gardens #BuryStEdmunds #Suffolk. #ThickTrunkTuesday
Last week my brother & sister walked part of the Pennine Way between Hawes and Dufton. We had an interesting conversation about how the path next to Cauldron Snout in Upper Teesdale is surprisingly difficult for a national trail.
It's immediately next to […]

Kijk nou hoe gaaf! Vrouwtjes wolbij verzamelen ‘wol’ voor hun nest van planten, zoals van de ezelsoor. @sdhope.bsky.social legde dat prachtig vast op onderstaande video 🐝
Fantastic, already for the 54 plug plants tomorrow!
Thanks! I saw her visit that leaf. Even so they are not easy to find.
She laid an egg! Brimstone #Butterfly egg on Buckthorn in the garden. #Cambridge @brimstone-project.bsky.social
Male bluethroat Klass Hennepoelpolder Polders Poelgeest
Polders Poelgeest Leiden NL cool N/NW wind. A crafty bluethroat which has been singing 4 over a week nr the windmill on Klass Hennepoelpolder finally revealed itself. Later I found another shy singing bird. Little movement exceptions being 1st cuckoo +spoonbill &2 avocets over #birds #dutchbirding
Just now in the garden on my home-grown Buckthorn, Rhamnus cathartica, a female Brimstone #Butterfly, Gonepteryx rhamni, laying eggs. 🤗

Confusion! These were on the east 'railway end' of Newmarket Ditch/Dyke in Watsonian VC29 & Cambridgeshire. Section further west by race course marks Cambs ║ #Suffolk admin boundary so plants on the N side are in Suffolk but still in VC29. If you hear a Curlew likely it's in VC26 West Suffolk. 🤯
Ashy Mining Bees, Andrena cineraria, in Great Gransden churchyard (VC31 Huntingdonshire) in the same bit of sandy turf where they were two years ago.

A big purple flower with a mass of contrasting bright yellow stamens in the centre. Grass behind.
Aa group of purple Pasque Flowers pointing to the left. A solitary flower, lower right, points at the camera revealing the many yellow stamens at its centre.
Several groups of purple Pasque Flowers growing on the side of one of the 'hills' looking down into a 'hole'. Barnack is a medieval stone quarry, the 'hills' are really grassed over mounds of quarry spoil.
At Barnack we went to see the Pasque Flowers.

A screen shot of the webpage showing information relating to this talk. There is a photo of brightly coloured mineral samples on a black background. The text reads ‘mineral and Earth pigments in art and architecture - public lecture, 21 July 2016, 18.00-19.00, virtual and Burlington House, Piccadilly, London, W1J 0BG’.
I’ll be giving a public lecture on mineral pigments in art @geolsoc.bsky.social on the evening of 21st July. You can attend in person or watch online. Registration details in the link below

Yes! Brookside, Church Road and the churchyard. All with their populations of Goldilocks. Toft Goldilocks was originally reported from the main road by the bridge over Bourn Brook but no sign of it now.
Spots on Goldilocks Buttercup leaves. Phone app suggests Phytomyza ranunculi but I'm not convinced. 🤔
Green Lane in Toft near #Cambridge is… a green lane 🙄.
It has patches of Goldilocks Buttercup, #Ranunculus auricomus, 🤗 but is it Toft Goldilocks Buttercup, Ranunculus toftensis? 🤔 Not were first described & Toft Goldilocks is found in lots of other places far from Toft. 🤯
