Akatemia edellyttää, että hakemuksessa kuvataan tutkimusasetelman tasa-arvo- ja yhdenvertaisuusnäkökulmat. Joskus meiltä kysytään, että mitä ihmettä se tarkoittaa. Esimerkiksi juuri tätä. Jos tutkittavina on vain miehiä, on syytä esittää sille hyvä perustelu ja kertoa, miten aikoo tuloksia tulkita.

Nainen ei ole koskaan sama, ja on siksi biotietieteille hankala tutkimuskohde Kaikki ihmiset eivät tunnetusti ole miehiä, mutta lääketieteellistä ja lääketutkimusta on tehty pitkälti heillä. Tulosten on oletettu pätevän myös naisiin, vaikka näin ei välttämättä ole.

”Hoitoon pääsyssä naiset jäävät takamatkalla, sillä useissa sairauksissa naisten diagnoosi ja hoito käynnistyvät keskimäärin vuosia myöhemmin kuin miesten. Tällä on merkittäviä vaikutuksia myös kansantalouteen työkyvyn, tuottavuuden ja terveydenhuollon kustannusten kautta.”
