#AGBTGM closing remarks:
Request for a new #AGBTdata meeting, standing ovation for Eric Green (absent), and announcement that next year's meeting will be in Orlando.
It's now party time!
Astronaut John Shoffner told us about his journey through life and space, inspiring us with some biomolecular resources (including his own tissue) for research into the biological and physical effects of microgravity #AGBTGM
Andrew Pask from The University of Melbourne speaking about bringing the Thylacine 🇦🇺🐅 back from extinction using genomic tech in collaboration with colossal.com
Also, saving the spotted quoll from extinction via CRISPR to mutate a single amino acid to confer resistance to cane toad toxins #AGBTGM
Andrew Pask: "We're going to genetically modify the endangered Quoll so they can eat invasive Cane Toads. And release them in the wild. It's a good idea! I swear!" Kidding aside, great talk and great work about marsupial conservation and de-extinction at #AGBTGM
Just saw a talk by Andrew Pask at #AGBT25 #AGBTGM on marsupial genomics, evolution, and gene editing for conservation. Completely mind blowing work. Taking both genetic editing and conservation work into a new frontier.
#AGBTGM #AGBT2025 #AGBT25 AP: quoll may go extinct in next 10 yrs. Eats toads but introduced cane toad is toxic and kills quoll. Toxin impacts ATP1A1 gene- should be able to introduce resistance. 1 single bp change increased resistance 6000x. Will help reduce spread of cane toads.
#AGBTGM: Great talk by Joe DeRisi on the clinical intervention of balamuthia infection. And a shoutout for BRAKER3 genome annotation pipeline published in @genomeresearch.bsky.social. Read more here tinyurl.com/Genome-Res-2...
