A striking vintage 1980s handmade hand fabricated mixed metals pewter bronze and copper geometric post-modernist box by acclaimed American artist/metalsmith Jon Michael Route of Wisconsin. Entirely handmade likely a one of a kind object with hinged lid decorated in a geometric design with copper and bronze sections, and with black velvet-lined interior. Really a work of art that has a practical use as well!
This outstanding post-modernist box measures 6.25" across by 3-1/8" by 1-1/8" tall at edges. It weighs 380 grams or about 13.5 ounces total prior to packing. Marked at bottom as shown, "Pewter" with the copyright symbol, and "Jon Michael Route" underneath. I haven't attempted to polish this box leaving that decision up to the new owner. Excellent vintage condition.

A one of a kind set of vintage 1980s Jon Michael Route USA handmade mixed metals pewter and bronze angular geometric post-modernist design coffeepot teapot and tray.
The coffee pot stands 10.5" tall by 7" from spout to tip of handle by 4" widest point. The tea pot stands 6" tall by 9" from tip of spout to tip of handle by 4" widest point. All three pieces are fully hand-signed and dated "1989" at bottom as shown in my photos. The set weighs just under 6 pounds total prior to packing. I haven't attempted to polish the set leaving that decision up to the new owner. Pewter is a soft metal, and this set was no doubt used by the original owners, and thus has accrued some fine pointed dings and light scratches and tarnish throughout, but nothing that can't be polished away if you want it to appear like new. Excellent vintage condition.

A rare vintage 1960s handmade copper enamel in wood modernist Cat design box by California artist/enamelist Kay Whitcomb of San Diego. Entirely handmade one of a kind piece of vintage modernist enamel art by one of the preeminent mid century American enamelists! Here is a short biography of the artist from the Enamel Arts Foundation website:

A major figure in American enameling, Kay Whitcomb was born in 1921 in Arlington, Massachusetts, to a long line of New England metalsmiths. Her work explored diverse subjects, and she incorporated words, phrases, and proverbs into it. She became versed in numerous techniques and started exploring unconventional methods of fusing glass to metal. By the late 1960s she was experimenting enameling on steel at factories in Germany and Belgium. Among her many large-scale works produced at Crahait Emailleries in Gosselies, Belgium, was a pair of eighty-four-by-thirty-two-inch doors, which were shown at California Design 11 at the Pasadena Art Museum in 1971. Her desire to share her knowledge led her to teach enameling at the La Jolla Art Museum and the San Diego Museum of Art shortly after her move to the region. She juried and curated numerous exhibitions and went to great efforts to keep enameling on public display. Besides exhibiting in Europe, she led the effort to have several American enamelists included in the prestigious International Biennial of Enamel Art in Limoges.

Measures 10" long by 6.5" wide by 2.5" high at rim. Marked at front in lower right corner, "Kay Whitcomb '61", also has hand etched signature and date on back into the wood as shown. No doubt a one of a kind piece of enamel art, though I have seen a very similar design in a wall-hanging version in the collection of the Enamel Arts Foundation. There is some wear and discoloration to the wood sections of the box, and the white plexiglass liner inside as shown. Excellent vintage condition.

A rare vintage 1980s handmade mixed metals bronze and silver-plate brutalist fish pendant by American metalsmith/sculptor Lee Barnes Peck of Illinois. An extraordinary example entirely handmade, and lovely how well the silver gold and copper of the mixed metals complement the shades of the handmade wood box and vice versa! Peck was born in Battle Creek, Michigan, but worked for most of his career in Illinois with his wife Naomi, where he also taught at one of the universities. Peck is well known for his incredible one of a kind brutalist jewelry, and he also received acclaim for his decorative objects including jewelry boxes and bowls. His work was included in the book, "Objects: USA" (1970), and in numerous exhibitions and gallery shows of the time. Along with Stanley Lechtzin, the artist was one of the foremost practitioners of electroplating as an art form of his era. This is an exceptional example of one of his jewelry boxes, and has an abstract mixed metals design electroplated in the metal section inset in the lid of the wood box. The box measures 7.25" long by 4.75" wide by 2-3/8" high at rim, and weighs almost 1-1/4 pounds prior to packing. Hand etched signature at bottom as shown, "Peck & Dougherty '80", and still has the original label at bottom as well for Peck and Dougherty of Sycamore, Illinois. (Dougherty was the fellow who made the wood boxes into which Lee Barnes Peck inset his little electroplated abstract paintings, the sort of custom-made frames for his art!) There is some slight oxidation to the electroplated section as expected with time, but I haven't touched it and it is completely original and as-found. Excellent vintage condition.

A charming vintage 1960s 70s one of a kind handmade hammered sterling silver and bronze figural Dragonfly design statement brooch. Really a knockout! Makes an incredible statement on a black blazer! Entirely handmade of hand forged and hammered heavy gauge sterling silver double 'wing' sections jointed to a hang forged bronze 'body' of the 'dragonfly'. In any case, a superb unique piece of wearable modern art! This wonderful brooch measures 2.75" across by 2" tall, and weighs a sturdy 9 grams total. Unmarked, and no doubt originally sold in an art gallery in NYC's Greenwich Village or Provincetown, or perhaps an outdoor art fair, and came with paperwork or labeling from the maker that has been lost over the years. In any case, a whimsical and wonderful statement brooch perfect for an art opening or museum visit, or really any occasion that you want to feel special! Tested and guaranteed to be as described. From the estate of a NYC collector who traveled the world for her career in publishing, and collected unusual and interesting pieces of wearable art along the way. Excellent vintage condition.

A one of a kind vintage 1960s 70s handmade sterling silver modernist statement necklace signed Artura. So unique, and such an incredible piece! This necklace is a showstopper! You won't see another like it! The pendant at bottom measures 4" wide by 3.25" tall, and hangs on the integral chain measuring about 28" wearable that will simply slip over most heads as there is no closure. A sculptural one of a kind vintage 1980s signed handmade sterling silver and pearl kinetic modernist Shooting Star design brooch by NYC artist/jeweler Paul Marcero. Entirely handmade hand fabricated one of a kind piece of wearable kinetic modernist art! A single cultured pearl post-set at the top on a sterling silver base with many long bead-tipped wires dangling below that resembles a shooting star to me, but is definitely open to interpretation. Here's a short bio of the artist:

Paul Marcero was born in NYC in 1952. He studied under Albert Paley at the State University of New York at Brockport where he graduated in 1974. He studied under Dave Pimentel at Arizona State until 1976. He opened his own workshop in NYC where he was in business for about 20 years. He and his wife moved to Wilkes Barre where he had his own shop for several years, and later freelanced for various jewelers in the area until he retired in 2022. I purchased this brooch directly from the artist, and most of the information here is from him.

Measures 3.75" tall by 2" wide, and weighs 29.5 grams or just about one ounce total. Marked at back with the artist signature, a conjoined "PM", also "Sterling" and "'85" for 1985. Excellent vintage condition.
