Cross section of an ash tree cut into logs. The black rot of Ash Dieback can be seen across the entire core of the trunk, from edge to edge. It’s shaped rather like a black leaf, with frilly edges. The sort of black seepage that you might see from mould or perhaps a fungal infection.
Wowsers. This one was bad 😳 #ashdieback

Trees dying from Ash Dieback, bare branches against the sky.
#AshDieback is now evident wherever you go in the UK. As more and more trees succumb to this disease their dead and dying branches make stark silhouettes against the autumn sky.

A bit of joy on Friday, among the many felled ash trees across England is this one outside my house. But it's still alive! And producing new healthy shoots.

A few of the interesting trees we saw this week while collecting data for our NERC funded project on the evolutionary response to ash dieback disease 🌳🌿 I never fail to be amazed at all the weird ways trees grow 😀 #Fraxinus #ashtree #ashdieback

This is a charcoal drawing of some dead ass trees there's a couple of fallen over onto another one that it looks like is gonna fall over as well. The whole picture is pretty bleak. When Ash died back has run its course in the UK will have 90% Ash trees. Already in my neck of the woods there's a big visible difference in the landscape.

This is a mono print of a rural hedgerow. There is a couple of dead ash trees in there from Ash die back but you can't really tell because the mono print doesn't have any definition.
This is a coloured drawing of a rural road that is lined with hedge row. there is a few trees making an arch at the bottom of the road and on the right of the page is a dead ash tree.

This is a graphite sketch that has been transferred onto the back of an old sketchbook using gesso. The sketch is of a rural road in Somerset. When I was out plein air sketching earlier today I was struck by the amount of dead as trees. Every hedgerow and every road seemed to have a dead trees.
