The Bael (or Bilva) tree is considered highly sacred in Hinduism. Revered as a residence of the goddess Lakshmi, deity of wealth and prosperity, its leaves and fruit play a significant role in the worship of Shiva. Two Ashram cats circle the tree's rough, fissured bark which is protected by a concrete-lined dirt planter. One has a distinctive black and white (tuxedo) coat pattern, and the other is a grey tabby with striped markings. A white decorative lattice screen is also visible in the background at Sri Ramanasramam, Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, India.
