Today is #AskHerToStand Day!
I’m proud to have been elected as the first women MP for Bathgate & Linlithgow in July 2024.
Woman make up just over a third of MPs, and that’s not enough. Also, only 35% of councillors in Scotland are women, our council chambers have a long way to go to reflect
We've come a long way in politics when it comes to equal representation, and this is worth celebrating.
But we're not quite there yet.
Therefore, today, on #AskHerToStand Day, I'm putting out a call: if you know any women who could do some good in politics, please encourage them to get involved.
There are 650 MPs, and I’m only the 660th woman ever elected.
Ask Her to Stand Day marks the 1918 law that first allowed women to stand for Parliament.
We’ve come far, but there’s more to do.

She's Policy Officer for Muslim Greens; EDI rep for London Green Parties and is an NHS dentist (our health policies need work!) and more.

HA no it's not partronising - it's something that bears repeating! The whole #AskHerToStand is one thing, keeping going in the face of a system that's designed to exclude us is as much of a barrier honestly. It's knackering, I've been plugging away now for 7 years and I think about giving up a lot.
