The California Nebula is only 1000 ly away and the closest HII region to us. Because it's so near, the nebula appears quite large in the sky. It is likely illuminated by the nearby star ξ Persei

The total solar eclipse photographed in Indiana, April 8, 2024. This image was taken during totality. The moon completely covers the sun’s disk. Between the 3:00 and 6:00 position, there are sever solar prominences visible. The image was taken with a Nikon D810 with the 200-500 zoom lens set at 500 mm. f8, 1/1000 sec, ISO 100, 4 stops underexposed.
