An augur buzzard gives me a look-over. Taken in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in Tanzania. The crater is an extinct volcano. Because the crater is relatively cut off from the nearby land, the density of wildlife inside almost guarantees sightings. The rim of the volcano is visible in the background. Augur buzzards are in the buteo family of hawks, so they are related to the common buzzard in Europe, and the red-tailed hawk and red-shouldered hawk in North America.
